Out in the middle of nowhere

It took some doing and a car that was up off the ground to find this. It has the story behind it but they have not made it a historical marker and easy to find. Fun to drive... read more

Saint Brendan the navigator may actually have been the first European to discover America (sorry, Lief Erickson!). Saint Brendan came back, arrived at the cliffs beneath this well and is reputed to have converted some pagan chiefs at this spot. CHARLES LINDBERG FLEW OVER THIS EXACT SPOT when he arrived in Europe on his epoch flight 1400 years later!!!! Not... More

We were in Port Magee for a trip to Skellig Michael. The hotel reception told us Valentia was a good trip for the afternoon prior to our boat ride. SO GLAD we went !!! The ride around the island gives some great views and the the Well location is spectacular ! When you question whether you should take a rental... More

The road is bumpy, full of potholes and there are no signs on the road telling you you are approaching the well. Please fix the road...

The "road" has some deep potholes, so a high clearance vehicle would be advantageous. The scenery is beautiful and somewhat remote, and the carved crosses are remarkable.

Very bad road with pot holes to access. Very peaceful place. One of standing stones not accessible due to ditch and field boundaries.

The Well was signposted from the main road but no indication of distance. The road got narrower and narrower and then quite rough. Plenty of potholes which as long as you go really slow can be negotiated in a normal car. However, when you go past O'Sheas the road gets worse. We parked a bit further down from there where... This place is so beautiful, and the views are unparalleled. The history of Ireland's ancient Holy wells alone is enough to intrigue people, but remember to bring warm clothes and walking shoes, and get out of your car for a true Irish countryside experience!

We carefully followed the signs off the main road onto a rough dirt road, which was slow going for a long time. The road eventually became rougher and rougher, becoming completely impassable with GIGANTIC potholes big enough to get stuck in or to trash the underbelly of your car. It appeared to be turning into a dead end, with no... More
