Lovely and the walks around the grounds are lovely. Pity to see the building blocked from public, perhaps they might open to tourist in near future.

In May of 2016 we were fortunate to meet family in Castletownbere. My husband's cousin...a few times removed lived on the hill overlooking Puxley Castle. This is such a beautiful part of Ireland.

The Puxley Mansion is not accessible having fallen on hard times when almost complete. It is visible from the lane leading to Dunboy castle, but is fenced and has CCTV on the building. Dunboy Castle has magnificent views and some historical plaques. We toured with a group which would be advisable if possible.

This place is not open to the public these days as its all fenced off looks like renovation has come to a stop. But the whole place has great views looking out on to the bay and surrounding countryside. Good walks around the perimeter, and various bits of the old castle remain. Well worth a look.

The area of Dunboy Castle with basically nothing left was of personal interest due due family connections. The Puxley mansion can been seen from the road but not entered. Apparently the investors who wanted to make it a luxury hotel ran out of funds and it is closed. The walking here is really lovely with nice views of the bay... More

For both sites which are in close proximity I would advise any visitor to have a bit of a read up on local history. Puxley Manor, back ten years or so was a burnt out ruin of a large manor house built by the Puxley family who owned the Copper mines near Allihies, at that time it was something you... More

The ruins of Dunboy Castle are worth a visit as the new storyboard is very informative There is a classic loop walk here, Bullig bay which if you research and do in the full is very rewarding.

Confusinly Dunboy is signposted several miles away, but then on the road you need to take it reads Puxley - being a tourist in the area I was not to know that both are correct in there own way. We drove down a narrow road and could see all this metal fencing, and peepin out from behind the trees and... More

If you are interested in Irish history, this is a place to visit because on the same site, not far from each other, you have a short introduction to what happened to this beautiful corner of Ireland and as well a lasting memorial to modern folly. The Puxley Mansion built by the family who developed the copper mines at Allihies,... More

The Puxley mansion is all fenced in and the gatekeeper intercepted us and sent us down to the ruins of the O'Sullivan castle. It's in a beautiful location.
