Beautiful house and grounds.

Absolutely beautiful place and in the summer it will be magical. The Christmas Exhibition in the house was particularly good.

Ive been round the lovely grounds but never into the house before. The ground floor rooms are open to the public, and have the most beautiful christmas decorations I've seen in a long time. I can't begin to guess how long the staff and volunteers spent putting it all together! Definiyely a great antidote to for anyone suffering from an... More

What a fantastic discovery! Stopped by when we had a couple of spare hours on the way to Southampton. The display of Ralph Dutton's largesse towards his employees and locals was touching in the extreme. He must have been a wonderful person. Exhibition was superbly recreated by committed staff. Will return to explore in detail. Wonderful vista's and walks.

Visited early December. On arrival we were surprised to see how busy the car park was. The answer is that there is a thoughtful and informative exhibition of the Christmas story running throughout December. This is well worth a visit in its own right without the attractions of the house and garden itself. Honk. The restaurant was very busy (half... More

As a party of three adults and two (not so young) children, we decided to visit Hinton Ampner to see the beautiful house but, mostly, to do one of the signed walks through the surrounding countryside. Less than an hour's drive from outer London, the Hampshire countryside setting is superb. On arrival, there was ample space in the car parking... More

Visited midweek when it was very quiet so there was plenty of time to browse in each of the rooms. So many antiquities to look at and admire. Even this time of year the gardens were worth a visit. A point for disabled visitors is that you can park in front of the house by not coming in the main... More

I had wondered what this house would be like after reading that it had had a serious fire in 1960 and rebuilt afterwards but it really was delightful. The man who inherited it in 1935 loved the place and after the fire in 1960 spent a lot of money restoring it so that he could move back in only 3... More

Visited this house whilst staying in Winchester. Lovely gardens, beautifully kept, stunning views and a wonderful house decorated in a Georgian style. The guides were very good and informative. Well worth a visit.

We went to visit the house on a Saturday afternoon under the rain. In spite of the bad weather and the cold, the garden was still very nice and enjoyable for a walk. The house was beautiful and well taken care of. We were warned that some of the rooms wouldn't be available to visit but it didn't bother us... More

We visited as it was on our way back from Winchester. A quite small house but interesting to discover something of its history and the fire of 1960. The gardens are well laid out and pleasant to stroll in, though some parts were shut when we visited (too wet underfoot). A nice tea room, though service was a bit slow.
