Set at at the middle of the Famous Foxton Locks site, The BoilerHouse uses fun and films to support its historic collection of artifacts, to tell the story of Foxton Locks and The inclined Plane Boat Lift. Previously 'Foxton Canal Museum' we reopened in April 2015 after a major Arts Council funded refurbishment. We now have films, a unique 'boiler game' and several screens telling the story. you can also download the Foxton App, this brings the lift and history alive out on site, the full app is £3.99 but it lets one adult into the BoilerHouse for Free! Children love the Boiler Game and the play boat, but the children are often old enough to retire! Wheelchair access is good, but you may need assistance as the site is quite steep. give us a call if you want advice. School parties and group visits welcome. Visit our website for more information.

A very friendly welcome at this quaint museum that we spent about 45 minutes in. It was our first visit to the museum as on other occasions we have visited the locks the museum has been closed. Well worth a visit.

Would, maybe, of interest to children but very little of interest for the average adult. In no way does this museum warrant an admission fee of £4 per adult.

Dear TowingTinSnail, Thank you for your review. I'm sorry you felt it was over priced and not interesting enough. The museum doesn't receive funding as we are independent and rely on the entry charge and money from the shop to run it. The information in the museum has been designed to give the visitor an overview, if that is what... More

We took our boat through the locks and came back and visited this little museum and were so pleased we did. Lovely, helpful, jovial staff with a real love of the canals answered all of our questions and we learnt so much about the amazing inclined plane and how and why it was there. Well worth a visit and a... More

Found the Boiler House Museum very interesting having visited 35 years ago when the inclined plane was all but forgotten about. Think the displays are very informative and very good for children. Think that the £4.00 a head together with the £2.50 parking is a little steep as this is only for 4 hours and if you want to walk... More

Compact yet plenty you do. Very informative with lots of free quizzes for the kids. Hands on and easy to understand the history and all about the inclined plain. Great spot outside first step picnic and good value souvenirs.

Want to know about the Inclined Plane, locks and canals then the BoilerHouse has it all in a compact but very well laid out exhibits hall. Seperated into different zones you can receive the details from well compiled and clear presentations Youngsters and the more mature, when it's quiet, can load the steam boiler and haul the canal boats, great... Surprised at just how small the place is, £4.00 each and no concessions for over 65's. My husband paid the entrance fee for both of us, then when I was a quarter of the way round I was challenged by the lady that took our money and asked if I'd paid, very embarrassing. They also had a visit from (I... More

Dear Jennifer, I'm sorry you felt our museum was poor value for money. The museum doesn't receive funding as we are independent and rely on the entry charge and money from the shop to run it. We will reviewing the admission prices for next year and looking at introducing a concession price. If you would like to come back and... More

Small pub right on the side of the canal with plenty of outdoor seating to sit and watch the boats. Great local ales and reasonably priced hearty food.
