It's a lovely place set in nice surroundings The food is tasty and priced about right I would say.its popular because of the roman wall.

I visited on a lovely sunny day. Jane in the shop was lovely and friendly and gave me information on the site and local area. The priory ruins were quite stunning probably one of the best priorys I have visited. The church was beautiful if a little plain, and the graveyard was fascinating. Lovely tea shop next to the priory... More

A nice place to visit, the priory is very interesting as is the gift shop. The café is very nice, the main meals are good with some nice choices but it would be nice if there were dairy free cakes on offer. There are gluten free ones though.

The church has wonderful history including the links to Hadrian's Wall. The ruins evoke the imagination as to what used to be and the grounds are good to stroll around. Even the cemetary at the rear steeped in history and memories is a moving location

Lanercost is a charming place with an impressive, solid edifice. The austerity of the functional church is a good contrast with what your imagination can do with the remains of the medieval Augustinian Priory. It’s fun to find the bits of Hadrian’s Wall that had been purloined to build the Priory. The lasting memory is of the terracotta effigy of... More

The Priory is brilliant viewing, lots to see here, loads to get around, however the day was marred by not being able to find a toilet for the MRS, We eventually found there was a loo in the Cafe there, But the woman there would let us quickly use the Loo as we were leaving, as it was apparently for... A very cool and interesting stop. The lady at the front counter was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of useful, historic knowledge about the site. The children were given a map to try and find some hidden objects in the priory which added some extra excitement and competition for them.

What a beautiful old Church steeped in History and used to this day. The Priory near the Church really gives you a sense of what it could have been like when it was occupied, unfortunately the dormitories have disappeared however the undercroft showing the vaulted area is stunning in its architecture. The more sites I visit like this the more... More

I was really looking forward to a visit here as we have just joined English Heritage and were on the way back from a weekend at the Lakes. Firstly, this place isn't really wheelchair friendly as the handbook seemed to suggest. The lad in the office did offer to put ramps down - but he was in the office by... More

Even though it was June, it was freezing and wet so it was a short visit and I only saw two other visitors. At £4.40 for non English Heritage members it's one of the cheaper properties but due to its location, it's ideal for visiting some of the roman sites along the Hadrian's wall. The Priory dates from the 13th... More
