A beautiful drive into the Mangroves of Western almost Central Trinidad, a place called Caroni Bird Sanctuary. You should first go to the Visitors Centre. Before you enter, you should look for the Red Capped Cardinal bird. It is most times at the Gated Entrance. As you walk in, you can read how the area became a Sanctuary, then pictures... More

Booked with Madoo tours. HANDS DOWN the best tour group on the Swamp! Lots of great and interesting info about the surrounding flora, fauna and wildlife. In addition to lots of educated information about the Scarlet Ibis. We could actually see another tour group close by (while watching the birds come in to roost) and the other tour guide sat... We booked with Darren of Mandoo Tours. What an excellent guide he was, with lots of info about the flora and fauna of the Caroni Swamp. We saw tree boas, a screech owl and of course, lots of native bird inhabitants including egrets, ibis and herons. April is nesting season so there were not as many birds as in Jan-Feb,... More

We were taken by Nanan's Bird Sanctuary Tours by boat up the channels leading to where the scarlet ibis fly in to roost. The guide, Lester, was jolly and very knowledgeable and stopped to see wildlife along the way. Actually seeing the ibis, egrets and herons flying in to roost at dusk must be one of the spectacles of the... More

I booked with Madoo Bird Tours. The guides were nice and very knowledgeable. They stopped for us to get pictures and learn about some of the wildlife along the way. The highlight of the tour is toward the end when we stopped in an open area to watch thousands of scarlet ibis fly back to their roosting spots for the... More

I'm pleased we visited but the experience was mostly uneventful and protracted. Essentially, you travel on a boat for an hour or so through the mangroves seeing very little before emerging from the narrow channels onto a wide expanse of water with a small island dotted in its centre. This is where thousands9 of scarlet ibis return each night to... More
