This place is fun. Great place to eat, drink and people watch, surrounded by lovely buildings. We had breakfast and pre-dinner drinks there every day.

A very typical plaza de España. Busy with lots of people.... Many bars and restaurants. A bit seedy and nothing really to see...

I found the main square rather messy, a mixture of about all and everything, with no specific highlight worth to mention. but as it is the central square, you will anyway pass by here and can make your own picture of it.

Looking for photos of Merida beforehand, we thought Plaza de Espana looked a bit boring. But in reality, it is buzzig with life and people, outdoor cafes, palm trees, the beautiful yellow town hall on one side and t he cosy friendly cathedral in the...More

The Plaza Espana is central square. Lots of people and nice cafes. We love the place. In the morning, in the evening and at night.

The fact that this quiet corner of Mérida, Spain is called Plaza de Espanha with the Portuguese spelling of Spain (which should be España) struck us as quite significant. In fact, the local people of Extremadura tend to look to Portugal with much affection and...More

Yes, it looks better in the photo's than real life, so a fairly average square and had buildings works going on in June 2017 so that detracts from any thing beautiful. Cast your eyes skywards towards the rooftops for the nesting birds.

The Plaza España is in the city centre, with the town hall on one edge, the Merida Palace hotel and a few bars and restaurants. The centre of the square is under renovation currently to replace the four historic kiosks. The square is beautiful, the...More
