Wonderful tiny old town totally surrounded by walls

Centro Storico di Monteriggioni is the historical centre of this little medieval town, located in Tuscany Region, in the center of Italy. This town is really charming is a tiny medieval town on the hop of a hill and totally surrounded by wall. Really it is a medieval town! We visited this town with my 3 years old daughter (in August-2019) and all of us enjoyed a lot. We walked around all town, we went up to the walls and see the very beautiful views of Tuscany, we visited the main church (Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta), the Armor Museum (Museo delle Armature), taste and buy local wines (Castello di Monteriggioni Winery), eat in one of the restaurants of the main square (Il Feudo, excellent local food and wine) and obviously my daughter run, play, laugh, enjoy and eat with us. So, a wonderful medieval town with a very nice walls. Top in the region! Really beautiful

I'm sad we didn't see more of this place. We were on a tight schedule during a Chianti wine tour for our anniversary, but we still managed a good walk-around and to hit a couple of gift shops.

Beautiful

With so many sites to see I'm glad this was one of our stops. I pretty little town inside the castle walls. We spent time just sitting enjoying a nice glass of wine.

Have tried to visit for some time a truly and magnificent intact walled town & so well kept with out being sterile & just a tourist attraction, still feels like a living town

A well preserved fortress

It is tiny but really nice. There are so many beautiful corners to stop by for a while and enjoy the surroundings. The church, the walls, the gardens, the two doors that give access to the fortress. There are very nice shops and also restaurants, and ice dealer. We were there in occasion of the Medieval Festival "Monteriggioni di torri si corona". It is held every year the first two week ends of July. It is a unique atmosphere, people attired in medieval costumes, various shows in the streets, medieval food, plays, music, battle and shows with fire. On the last night we saw fireworks with music. Really stunning.

Nice small town

Very nice and typical tuscany defence architecture from rebesaince period,stay in main square just fir a glass of wine or ice cream. Walk is max 15 mun,but really must see!👍

A small but inviting Tuscan hill town

We stopped here at the suggestion of hotel staff in Volterra. The town is very small and can be seen quickly. It's certainly not a "must-see" place but is worth a quick stop if you're driving nearby and have a little time to explore it.

lovely old town

Lovely to walk down these old streets, you can feel the old Italy alive again. Just a stroll, you do not have to walk far to experience the friendly atmosphere

Interesting but small !

The historical Center of Monteriggioni is quite interesting but it is small so if someone has to spend time there , it is advisable to visit the museum and walk the walls . There are also a few shops and the church to visit !
