The admission ticket was around € 8 if I am not mistaken to see what remains from a castle. The velvet cafe it self was nice and since it located about 2 levels up from ground, we can get an overall city view while enjoying...More

This is a smaller cave compared to the Gemeentegrot, and during the Christmas market season, both sold the same type or similar items. This cave had more inscriptions and paintings on the wall and also had a Christmas nativity. The restaurant inside this cave only...More

It took over one hour to walk through the caves and there was music and Christmas lights and there was an outside market. It is a lovely place to visit with a castle. Also there is another cave making it two in total to visit...More

Worth a visit, but not a problem is missed. Paintings are somewhere between interesting and outright Kitsch. A bit artificial all.

I have several qualifications for this review. First of all, I did not take a tour of the castle ruins or the velvet cave. I just walked up to the ruins, so I didn't get a history, etc. As for the Velvet Cave, I was...More

It was a foggy day, but the castle ruins above Valkenburg was still nice to walk around. The informative signs are in both Dutch and English. There are lovely views over town.

A visit to the Velvet Caves Christmas marked is basically like paying 7 Euros each to being herded through a giant underground Poundland. Some of the decorations were good and being in a cave added to the atmosphere, however it was let down by the...More

We visited this market as part of a three day trip to various Christmas markets in the region and, oh dear, what a disappointment. I had been previously many years ago and remember it as being full of lovely hand crafted things, particularly wooden. This...More

Arrived early which was just as well as when we left the queue was unbelievable! We decided to give the other main cave a miss as it too had a large queue. We enjoyed the experience of the market being in a cave and there...More

I have been to both, and while both are excellent, Cologne has more appeal I think because it is held next to the cathedral. I also don't recall having Glu Wine at the Dutch Market. I have not used either coach line.
