We were in Arcos today & made a point to stop in the museum after reading the above reviews. Although the banners are still up, the museum has closed. A local shopkeeper told us he couldn't make ends meet after getting rid of the entrance fee (and relying on donations). Too bad, sounded unique...

I wanted to add to the other five star reviews that now this place has free admission! This is such a unique little place I would travel to Arcos just to see this if I were anywhere within a couple of hours. It's truly amazing to see how this artist has recreated so many works from so many of the masters all in tiny size but all so apparently exact replicas of the originals. It's like visiting a dozen famous museums all shrunken down and placed on small flat stones. While it almost sounds like a joke saying it out loud it is absolutely for real. We spent close to an hour just marveling over the miniatures. The artist is there and he is completely welcoming, he doesn't try to get you to buy anything and he encourages photos. It was a truly special treat. Arcos is a lovely little town to visit for a day or a night and this little place is a fabulous part of the charm.

This museum of miniature paintings on rocks is incredible! We were walking by and poked our heads in and it was only 2 Euros because it's new, so we went in. The woman there said we were lucky because the artist happened to be there! We talked with him quite a bit and took photos with him after he told us that he spent 200 hours on one of the paintings. You will think someone took photos of famous paintings in big museums and pasted them onto these rocks, but actually he took tiny paintbrushes over his entire career and actually painted copies of these many famous museum paintings onto these rocks! There are 200 of them there with some of the famous royalty whose paintings he has actually done. Do not miss this wonderful attraction in this amazing town!
