The largest Baroque/Roccoco Church in Norway The Church of Kongsberg is the largest baroque/roccoco church in Norway seating 2400 people. The Church is a unique structure with altar, pulpit and pipe organ built into one manificent altar wall facing the treasurebearing mountain. The church interior also features a beautifully decorated kings loge and two enormous glass chandeleirs from Nostetangen Glassverk. The Gloger organ Gottfried Heinrich Gloger designed, built and installed the famous Gloger organ in Kongsberg church. It is said to be Northern-Europes largest baroque instrument, and is frequented by some of the greatest organ players in the world.

The 250+ year old church has beautiful, old wooden seating across three levels and a baroque organ with 3000 pipes. Just entering through the decades old wooden doors transforms the ambience taking you back in time. It holds music and other events regularly and the...More

This is a most unusual church, being long and narrow with the altar on the narrow side located beneath the organ. Internally, much timber with seating in areas designated to people by their class. Fascinating place, well worth a visit.

Lovely and well maintained old church. The pipe organ inside is beautiful as are the glass chandeliers. I did not go to service there, just spent some quiet time touring inside.

We passed there in the evening. There is parking but we didn't bother to get off the car. I'll suggest to have a walk around the river instead

I have been to a couple of concerts in Kongsberg Church, which was fantastic, also due to the church itself, not only the musicans and the organ player. So when I had two cousins from the US over for a vacation in Norway I took...More

the austere brickwork does little to tell you what beauty lies within. the interior is wooden and simply fabulous. Well worth a visit.

Take a look inside this church and read the free information booklet. It is really worth taking a look inside to see the Baroque interior and to gain an insight into the social history of the area. Entrance is free. Watch the opening times.
