A beautiful and historic bridge in what is now a tranquil and relaxing place. It was once the only crossing of the river and was a place of commerce and customs but is now quiet with a small bar. It’s a long, winding road to get there but it’s worth it.

The bridge is beautiful located and rests in a perfect surrounding. An agriturismo is located at one end of the bridge where you can eat and drink something. There is a possibility to walk to the bridge through a beautiful landscape. This walk takes about 15-30 minutes, depending on the speed. The other way is to drive up to the agriturismo and walk the last few hunderd meters.…

On the map this looks like a long trip but is in fact not far at all. However it is a slow trip because of the bendy road so driving at slow speeds. It is worth going to the bridge for the history behind it. The customs buildings are now a restaurant and accommodations. The other side was a flour mill grinding chestnuts using the river, this is now a private residence so you can only look at the outside. This trip allows you to travel through numerous Tuscan villages and experience life as it is which seems to be far from modern civilisation yet so close in distance.…

If you have a day to spend during a hot summer day somwhere close by Pistoia, go to Popiglio, Ponte di Castruccio... the bridge is so so so old, but still functional, have a bbq by the river or go for a splash in the water! the bridge connects 2 villages Piteglio and Popiglio and the walk through the bushes to get to one or the other is very nice! For elderly people you can get there almost with the car from piteglio, if you want to walk go from popiglio!…
