About
I show you the history of Gedera a town built by the Biluim over 130 years ago. The walk takes in the old wine distillery, Levinson House, Mintz House (now the museum), the reconstructed 'Hole of Gedera', the Von Veisel house and explore the first road of Gedera. I will tell some of its secrets and talk about some past residents. Duration approx 2 hours. Gedera is quite hilly. הסיור הזה גם ניתן להשיג בעברית

Barry is a friendly and super knowledgeable tour guide who brings the history of the area to life. He really knows and loves Gedera, a quaint and charming little town from the early pioneering days. Our group loved the tour and highly recommend Barry.

Had a great walking tour with Barry. We were staying in Gedera for a couple of days but didn't realise there was so much history. A definite must if you are staying in this area. Barry is extremely knowledgeable and made our 2 hour tour really enjoyable. Great value, would highly recommend.

Barry's walking tour of Gedera was so interesting. He is a fount of knowledge about this moshava and so enthusiastic and passionate on how he presents it. He also uses an iPad and some music. We enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.

Using the history of Gedera, Barry traces the development of modern Israel, its successes and challenges. He weaves local events and locations into a national historical tapestry that is fascinating and illuminating. His personal enthusiasm, supported by archival pictures and video footage bring the story of a small and pretty town into the centre of the birth of the idea that led to the birth of a nation. Barry lives in the town so on the tour don't be surprised if you bump into locals who engage with you (had a nice chat with the local rabbi) as well as opening doors to sights most tourist would miss. Loved the sculpture garden, the restaurant recommendations and the peace and calm of the area. Highly recommended.

My wife and I had the pleasure of taking a walking tour of Gedera on a recent visit to Israel. Our charming and knowledgeable guide, Barry Levinson, took us through the fascinating history of the region with the aid of pictures, historical documents, museum exhibits and even music. Gedera is obviously close to Barry's heart and his enthusiasm spilled over into his presentation bringing history to life. By the end of the tour we had learnt so much about the history of Gedera and the intriguing and wondrous characters intertwined in the development of this little corner of Israel. Much of the story of the country is reflected in the history of Gedera, but I will leave it to Barry to explain it to you in a way I could never do. A great tour, a superb storyteller guide and a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. Highly recommended. A must if you are visiting Gedera, or even worth a detour if you are in the vicinity. Thank you, Barry.

Barry presents the story of Gedera as pieces of a historical puzzle. By the end of the tour, the pieces come together to tell a complete story about the establishment of the town and, on a much larger scale, the story of the entire enterprise of the Jewish return to Zion. The tour was a delight and it left my head spinning with amazing stories.

The story of my new home Gedera is very much the story of Israel. I am constantly learning and widening my knowledge of the area and hope one day to produce a documentary. Meanwhile please tell everyone to come and visit the small colony of Gedera and help to get us on 'the beaten path'. Neil, thanks very much for your kind comments.

We had not been in Gedera for many, many years, and it was a pleasure to return there and to explore the history of the founding fathers with Barry Levinson. Barry has an overwhelming amount of facts and lore at his fingertips, and he enjoys sharing this information with visitors.
For history buffs, this walking tour is a must!

I really enjoyed this tour in Gadera. I had no idea quite how much the people of Gadera contributed to the building of the State of Israel - this was a place where so many of the important Zionist figures had a connection to. Barry has taken it upon himself to personally interview many of the elders of the town and has an encyclopedic knowledge not just of the history of Gadera, but indeed the historical context within which it grew. This is something that you can't get from anywhere else - even from books or online.
Barry uses a variety of methods to bring variety to the tour, whether his storytelling, use of music or video that he has personally dug up from old archives and edited, poetry and historical sources. This certainly helps keep things interesting and engaging.
His passion for the history of this town really comes through and leads to a thoroughly enjoyable experience. A no miss for anyone interested in the early history of Israel. Thank you Barry!

Just spent a most interesting morning learning about the BILUIM(early Jewish settlers in Palestine/Israel). Barry Levinson's knowledge and eloquent explanation of all the main sights, brought the place to life. Gedera is now only 30 minutes from Tel Aviv and should definitely be included on the tourist trail.
