First, they welcome you with a cup of homemade hot cocoa and then take you to the tour where they teach you how the first habitants of the island cooked and ate the cacao. The tour ends in a... We booked the tour through Gray Line Tours. They have an office at the Sheraton Hotel in Santo Domingo. The Sheraton is an okay place to stay, but it needs a face lift. Gray Line Tours provided us with a roundtrip "VIP" ride to El Sendero del Cacao from the Sheraton. The ride is about 1 1/2 hours. We rode... More

We had a relaxing and enjoyable time at El Sendero del Cacao with a delightful English-speaking guide. The lunch was delicious and everything excellently done. Could not have been better.

We drove from Cabarete. A family of 7 with three children. We learned about the process to make chocolate and tasted it. We have managed to convince our children that dark chocolate is best.

Thank for the kudos ☺️. Really glad your children learned about cacao and it's process to become chocolate. That must have been a really nice drive. Lots of mountain views and small country towns. More

If you are on vacation in Santo Domingo or Cibao area this plantation would be worthwhile to visit within 2 hours drive. I would recommend you to take the lunch as well which is excellent. Don't miss the hot chocolate at arrival. :)

Good place for understanding cacao plantation. However, I would like a longer walk in the plantation including picking fruits. The tasting in the end was not very good

Hi Mattias, thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed your visit. 🍃🍂🍫😎 The cacao / cocoa plant and fruit are very delicate. If you remember from the walk in the plantation, the fruit has to be cut at a precise angle so it can regrow again. All the leaves on the ground are left for cushion if a... More
