It was great to see this unusual and large monastery after trekking uphill for a while. I also had a chance to observe the prayers which were conducted in the evening. I do not know how these monks live here for a long duration and have such a discipline. It was great to see prayers which lasted for an hour,... More

After a long and tiring trek upwards towards the Everest Base Camp, we reached Tengboche. Boy, was it a beautiful sight! I was there during winter (December) and it started to feel very cold. But it felt incredible to be there after spending the whole day trekking. There is a very humble guesthouse and bakery, along with the monastery which... More

Around 3PM the monks meet and visitors are welcome to sit in - shoes off (wear socks - its cold!), absolute silence. The chanting is mesmerizing and relaxing. Great time to take a nice break after trekking. No photos inside are allowed.

This is a nice break in the trekking. Some interesting things to see with a holy type feel. Amazing to see this type of building up here, not to mention it burnt down twice.

Inside this wonderful building you can hear the monks chant. Take your shoes of and enter at 3 PM. Close your eyes and you're in an other world ...

Historic monastery. Beauty unsurpassed, inside and out. I went with Tengboche Trekking in Oct. of 2015. I was guided by Tshering Tashi Sherpa of Tengboche Trekking company. Tashi has been a monk at Tengboche for 14 years. His knowledge of Buddhism and culture make the trip informative and spiritual. Thank you to Tashi.

En route to the base camp, one does halt at Tengboche which is a small village surrounded by 7 hills. The monastery is right there and has morning and evening prayers which one must visit if they can battle the chilling cold. It is very scenic and makes for great photos.

A beautiful experience. Make sure you take the time to meditate with the monks and soak up the serenity.
