Chapala has long been the haunt of artists and writers but is now better known a retirement destination for gringos. The lakeside malecon is full of fun stalls, some tourist kitsch, some more interesting items. The pier is picturesque and about 5:00pm the day we were there, some pole dancers swung down a vertiginous pole upside down in their local... More

Always lots of activity at the Malecon on weekends. Great place to walk your pets in the early morning. Winter brings all the pelicans to this lake area. Fun to watch them land and take off. Plenty of restaurants and vendors in the area.

It really is a nice place to stroll along the lake. There are very close by spots to stop and have lunch, and there are activities regularly scheduled in the area. You may find yourself wandering in a local arts and crafts show, and added bonus. Well worth a visit.

Very busy on weekends and full of the typical garbage trinkets that no one needs for sale. On the weekend there is almost no parking ever. During the week it's quiet enough to actually enjoy the place more. I much prefer the Malecon in Ajijic to Chapala.

Just nice to stroll along the malecon, check out the various booths and talk with them. Have a glass of tequila and enjoy life.

The Chapala Malecon is a great place to walk along the waterfront of Chapala and enjoy the scenery, vendors and buzz. If you go early in the day (before noon) on a week day it is quiet with a few vendors open and groups of men congregating. By the afternoon and weekends this is a busier place with families, vendors,... More

If you've not visited Chapala for some time, you owe it to yourself to give it another visit. The area is not what it was years ago. Chapala has made a real effort to make itself an attractive town. There are new restaurants, a very attractive downtown, a newly updated malecon, and friendly people.

The malecon is a great place for individuals, couples and families to stroll, shop or just sit and enjoy the beauty of the lake. It's very quiet during the week and fairly bustling on the weekends. Mexican people love family times and the weekend sees families eating, playing, walking and talking together, so nice to see.

This is a great getaway from Guadalajara which is under an hour away. The natural beauty of the place is unique and stunning. The biggest lake in Mexico that is surrounded by mountains and has an island in the middle with restaurants. Everything here is not fast paced, so relax and enjoy the beauty of the location. Take a stroll,... More
