Although closed to drivers until repairs completed due to last seasons heavy rains and mudslides, when you can get to this area again don't miss it. The surf and rocks and the waves crashing on shore are dramatically elegant

We were not impressed by this park. Obviously due to the fire and mudslides most of the park was closed but we found the parts that were open to be a bit dull. No real information from the rangers about what was open, poor signage...More

Big Sur is our favorite place in the world. Unfortunately, last summer it suffered a horrible man-caused fire. This year, a mudslide resulting from that fire cut off Highway 1 just beyond the entrance to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. We were so happy to...More

Visited in July 2017 and due to the earlier landslides parts of the park were still closed. The part of Hwy 1 that was open still offered beautiful sights so it's well worth a visit if the weather is nice! We found a parking inside...More

Due to the winter storm, a majority part of the park was closed. We just did couple mini trails and spent about little over an hour exploring. Despite spending $10 for entrance fee and only for an hour, I still think it was worth it...More

A basic campsite with few amenities but this is more than made up for by the most amazing location by the side of the Pacific Highway and overlooking the Big Sur. I stayed here whilst tour cycling on my bicycle. I will never forget camping...More

We took a tram from the Monterey side of Highway 1 to the park. Then we hiked up a brutal (for me 😀) newly erected 500 foot elevation trail to get to the Big Sur side of Highway 1. I hated my tour guide cousin...More

We were excited to stay in the Big Sur area despite the issues with the roads being washed away. We planned our trip and scheduled a date to camp in Big Sur Campground in the state park. This is a very large campground. There were...More

I would call the lodge. I doubt if the park is open but you could picnic nearby. The coast near Carmel is beautiful and not as difficult to reach as Big Sur.

I don't think hiking boots are necessary. I had my trail runners they were more than enough.
