The training centre has been shifted to newly constructed zoo called Abhayaranyam, which is around 3-5 kms from this location. Earlier there were options to feed the elephants; could see them take bath; you could watch their day to day activities. There used to be baby elephants and it was nice watching them. This is situated in the banks of... More

The visit to Kodanad Elephant offers nothing fresh. The training centre has been shifted to another place.

Good one that is near Cochin. Family day trip is recommended. You can see elephant feeding, bathing etc. Apart from Elephants, deer park is also there. Of course, Kerala government can improve this and make it better.

Any training being done should happen with compassion and definitely no Elephant riding should ever happen.

The Kerala State Forest Department took a decision to move this camp and merge it with a place called Abhayaranya. And seems like it was not a good decision. While Abhayaranya is a good place in itself, the elephants are not in their natural habitat anymore. And the only way you would see them is by paying a "TIP" to... More

A nice place to visit with family. This place have a small park and a zoo. Kids will love this place. If you are lucky enough you can see a one or two week old elephant cubs. The views of malayatoor church from the river bank is just amazing..

Kodanad Elephant Training Centre, located at walking/swimming distance from my mother's home, is permanently closed as of January 15, 2016. This place was used to train the wild elephants in the past and it started losing its glamour when catching elephants was banned. They started bringing many types of animals, primarily the animals captured from people for illegally keeping them.... More

We feared this might be a tourist trap offering elephant backed rides to throngs of tourists, but were pleasantly surprised. These are orphaned elephants that look genuinely happy and well cared for. We began by joining the elephants for their morning stroll. You walk alongside the elephants... you cannot ride them. Afterwards we followed them to the river where they... More
