It is a very nice location to visit I recommend it wholeheartedly. It is not only the statue which is nice to see, but if you are there, just take a moment and appreciate the beauty of the scenery surrounding you.

Not sure what was the reason which triggered the making of this sculpture, but for sure it is a stunning thing to see. It is in a not-so-obvious place , but if you know about it, you will search and find quite easily. Mostly due to its size. Parts of the sculpture are made of concrete, most probably the rock... One cannot cruise on the Lower Danube without seeing the Statue of King Decebalus! It is one of the few interesting sights on this part of the river and coming from the South , it announces the incoming Iron Gates in a few minutes . It is quite impressive and we have been told that it was the biggest rock... More

It’s a relatively new sculpture made between 1994 and 2004 at the Iron Gates, at the border between Romania and Serbia. It is the tallest rock sculpture in Europe. It’s impressive and an interesting initiative. The surrounding is amazingly beautiful so this is just a warm up for what’s to follow.

We did a cruise and this was obviously one of the highlights. Over 300 ft tall, it's impressive. And right next to the most picturesque church on the river.

Impressive sculpture as it is the biggest sculptor in natural stone from Europe. The surroundings are great as well. Take a tour on the Danube in the motor boats, totally worthy!

During our river cruise trip sailing from Romania to Servia, after passing Iron Gates, we found a huge rock statue carving of Decebal's face on the right hand side of River Danube. You could well find the statue which was very impressive. You can also find cruise boats in Orsova, particularly designed to view this spectacular site for hiring by... More

You can go with a car, but I recommend going there with a round cruise in the Danuba through Iron Gates.

Statue of Decebal, built between 1994 - 2004, is located between the towns Eselnita and Dubova, 17 km from Orsova. It is 55 m high, is the tallest sculpture in stone in Europe. Decebal's face, carved into the rock is appearing in a top 5 of most spectacular statues in the world. Going to the statue of the city Orsova,... More

We observed this enormous carving in limestone from a river boat, and it certainly was impressive to be seen from a distance. It is nearly 43 meters in height and over 31 meters in width. There were many people on land in the area so presumably there were things to do there.
