A cruise from Orsova to Iron Gates can be an unforgettable trip because alternating images of mountains, forests, water, plains, history, remain in your brain. The huge Decebal statue stands over the Danube Defile. The journey can be accomplished both on road and water, but believe me it is impressive from the water. Also there are two monastery on Romanian... More

We have been fortunate enough to cruise on the totality of the Danube River and we have found that the portion of the Higher Danube between Nuremberg and Budapest is more scenic than the Lower Danube between Budapest and the Black Sea . In fact the Iron Gates including the Hydroelectric Dams are the major points of interest on the... More

We sailed thru the Iron Gates doing a Danube River Cruise. The scenery is beautiful. We went in October and the fall Colors were just beautiful. A river cruise is relaxing to begin with, but then add in nothing but nature for miles, with a dot of a village here or there, The marvel of the two (2) dams and... More

We enjoyed a 3 hours cruise, starting from and ending at Orsova. The scenic part of the Danuba is quite far, so take your time for the cruise. We could see the statue of Decebalus,Traian stone, etc. Explanations were given in Romanian only but a lady translated for us. Really, we enjoyed.

Iron Gates I system is one of the largest hydraulic engineering in Europe and the largest on the Danube. Iron Gates area has a rich archaeological, historical and tourist potential. Roman fort and the ruins of the bridge built by Emperor Trajan over the Danube are just some of the attractions offered by the Iron Gates, also the Iron Gates... More

Passing through the Iron Gates was part of a wonderful extended river cruise along the Danube. Prior to the 1960s, the Danube raged through these deep gorges. Romania and Yugoslavia joined together in the 1960s to develop a series of hydroelectric dams, called the Iron Gates, which resulted in raising the level of the river. The waters now flow gently... The Iron Gate is a fascinating passage of the Danube. We wanted to experience it from a ship. We ended up on a motorboat - and I can recommend that. Cruises with ships are offered from Orsova, but they must be booked in advance. Schedules are hard to find. We did not manage to get on such a ship. The... More

So we spent 3 days in the south-east of the Romania, beautiful and adorable. A little romanian Gorge du Verdon like i like to call it. Really worth few visits to an active break and relaxing in the same time. On our way back we thougth to visit the museum of the Iron Gates, because you know this changed the... More

One of the most impressive monuments of the region, the Decebal sculpture in the rock can be seen by going by car and by boat also. The Iron Gates are not in the same place, but not too far neither.
