This monastery built in 13th century is religiously significant since it is believed to have been spared by Mongols due to the relief of God with large almond shaped eyes. Similar to other monasteries in Armenia this is also built on a hill and offers...More

Armenia is known for its monasteries and the one in Naravank is another beautiful one to behold. Protected by the giant rock cliff behind it with views of the valley around it, you can’t help but stand in quiet reverence of it all. We enjoyed...More

So beautiful situated in a valley surrounded by high cliffs. Several churches and chapels all dating back to the 13th and 14th century. A church (reachable by a very narrow steep stair) atop a burial vault: unique building and very nicely sculptered. Several khachkars (cross-stones).

Very interesting reading and hearing about this monastery, the details on the walls, the small steps to the top, etc. One of the best monasteries in Armenia, as well as Tatev.

Beautiful Monastery set in a lovely valley. Wonderful carvings on the walls and inside. Very old and an excellent example. Try to follow a guided tour to get the most of the experience as this monastery was built by a master.

Most of the road will be covered by a car. You need to walk about 2 mins to reach the church. The road is very lovely and it's a must see place. Go for it!!
