Slag is a by-product of copper smelting. Slegghaugan stand as large mountains that are a testament to the huge amount of activity that has taken place over 333 years. If you climb to the top of Slegghaugan, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Mining-Town. Very close to Slegghaugan is Sleggveien, also referred to as Pippi Street. An episode of Pippi Long Stocking was filmed here.

We went to Roroos and we drove past these big black piles of rocks with some snow on them. There was a museum but it was shut, so we didn't find out what it was all about. But it was a weird site, you don't expect to see big piles in the middle of the town.

The big slag heaps dominated a portion of the town of Røros. The heaps, the small cotttages, the smelting factory are protected by UNESCO - very interesting how the rest of the town surrounds the area and yet seems to complement it. Climb up onto the various slag heaps for a commanding view of the surrounding areas.

In addition to the great views, it is starkly attractive on its own. The various bits of slag under your feet have fascinating shapes and sheens. The faint odor reminds you that you are standing on top of three hundred years of mining detritus.

Walking in the small town of Røros, one can't miss they'll mining dumps Slegghaugan, located in the upper parts of the town. Take a walk there and also into some of the small houses in the vicinity that used to hold a family and their cattle. Mining dumps are generally a no-no, but these uncontained dumps are actually protected as... More

Visiting a crisp and sunny winter day, we had a lovely view. It is only a short walk from the main street, and really worth the overview of Røros.

Slegghaugan is among my favourites in Røros. Just across the brigde from Smelthytta you can climb them and on top it gives you a great view. Fun for the children.

Took a walk to visit these old slag heaps.....too much snow to walk to the top but like the church the heaps are real symbols of the town.

Take a walk to the top for a great overview of Røros. I did not even take conviction of the kids to walk to the top. The view is very nice!
