Come up here before 11am and if it's not raining... Rainbow will welcome you.

Not too difficult a climb but do take an hour to walk and a small climb the get there. The walk in the trail is also very refreshing and the 1 hour ride from S Lembing town is also very interesting. Never see a rainbow at such close range ... not disappointed at all.

The view with the rainbow over the bottom of the waterfall is just simply amazing. It's a very rare experience indded. The trip will test you though. Best to book a homestay in Sg Lembing where the trip is part of the package. The journey will start around 530-6am. Takes about an hour drive and another 45min hike. The hike is not for amateurs but you needn't be a pro either. Just wear non-slip shoes....preferably pure rubber you can buy from the hardware store and dress to be wet. There will be strong to guide you across boulders and fallen trees. Even will walk through a swollen river (depending on season) at the beginning of the hike. Once there, you may fight with the crowd for space and the drivers will serve you hot milo, coffee, tea and instant noodles. Part of the package. Wait for the sun to hit the waterfall just right and take your awesome pic!

The jungle trekking was fun and relax. We can even make it by just wearing sandal. **First time in my life! (^^") However, I would still suggest people to wear proper sport gear and prepare a pair of sandal for river crossing. Water height may vary from knee to waist level.
It was a half day journey and we paid RM50/pax for total package (inclusive of RM5 per entry to the forest reserve for forestry permit and RM3 for management and control, plus light refreshment at waterfall).
It started from sunrise viewing, then an hour jungle trail by 4WD, jungle trekking (45 min), river crossing and rainbow viewing at waterfall (depending on the amount of water dripping from top and sunlight). During return journey, our tour guide brought us to a small hot spring pond and using another route that crossing a modern aboriginal village which was not that bumpy compared to earlier. We reached town around 12.30pm and had lunch at a vegetarian restaurant (nearby and the same row with hawker centre). There are wide varieties and tasty dishes. Yummy!

**You may contact our tour guide Teck for booking arrangement (Chinese speaking). Or else, try to spot his contact in one of the photos people posted here. :D

My trip was a weekend trip, and we joined up with a local tour. We left in the early hours before sunrise. Went up to catch the sunrise on the top of a hill, and left for the waterfall. It took roughly 40 minutes to reach the drop off point, and another 40 minutes of trekking through the forest trail before you will reach the top of the waterfall. Try to reach earlier as the rainbows will be more visible in the morning light. The rainbow disappears in the late morning.

Some practical tips. Do not wear slippery soled slippers. Wear sports sandals or shoes that you don't mind getting wet. There is some climbing over rocks involved. Nothing over 3m. There are ropes strung by the locals so that helps at the more difficult areas. Go slow and take a break if you need to. But other than some rocks, the trek is over relatively flat ground with slight incline.

After taking breakfast in the wee hours, we embarked onto a "jeep-truck" that can carry 12 persons. It was a breezy bumpy 40-minutes ride through the forest. We geared up to a very steep slope to view the "clouds" from above and had trek through rivers to reach the "beginning" point of real-trekking to the Rainbow Falls. It was not a tough journey but stamina is definitely needed. We reached the Rainbow Falls spot at about 8.30am and by 9.30am, the RAINBOW appeared!! Spectacular and amazing sight, indeed!

This is the best place in Kuantan for my trip. We wake up in the morning 6am. We take 4 wheel drive inside the wood (around 1.5hours) then continue with a bit of hiking (1hour). When we reach the top, we saw a fall. The water is very clean. We waited for 1 hour to see the rainbow. It is a unforgettable experience.

Need to take 4 wheel drive to go deep into the wood then a bit of hiking. Most homestay around sg lembing can arrange the trip for you.
Expect a big crowd during holiday season. We manage to reach rainbow waterfall before anyone else, it was magnificient!!
Choose off peak season or hike ahead everyone else to get the best out of it.

This is definitely the BEST EXPERIENCE I've had during a short two week work stint at Kuantan, where I took every opportunity to visit attractions within an hour or so from Kuantan. Sg Lembing is just 45 minutes away from Kuantan (merely 40kms).

From the start (meeting point at the food court beside the Sg Lembing market) to the finish, every aspect of the journey met and exceeded expectations.

First was the breakfast at Sg Lembing food court where one can enjoy the famous home-made Lembing noodles with "yong liew" (vegetable stuffed with fish paste). I had a bowl of curry lembing noodles with 4 different pieces of "liew" and it was delicious (even though it wasn't from my guide's favourite stall nor was it the most popular stall in the foodcourt). This is a must-try at Sg Lembing.

Then the journey up in a truck begins at 7am, and one gets to enjoy crisp, cool morning air throughout the journey. My guide, Teck, is known for his steady (in other words, SLOW) driving up the mud trails, which also translates to it being a more comfortable journey (bumpy still, but safe). The journey takes over 90minutes. It's this incredible journey uphill through Malaysian wilderness and awesome views of the mountains and valleys and streams that made me feel that my guide is under-charging for his service. I'd gladly pay twice if not triple the amount of what the local guides charge to bring visitors up to this hidden gem. These local guides are proud of their village and happy to share its' uniqueness with those who visit.

After the journey on the truck, one has to track about half an hour to the waterfall, starting with crossing a knee/waist deep river (depending on the time of the year and rainfall). The track is easy (for someone who's unfit) and at certain parts, there are ropes to guide and assist, especially at rocky areas near the waterfall. Teck who noticed my lack of confidence on the trail, picked a fallen root/branch and turned it into a walking stick to help me with balance.
He was thoughtful and attentive throughout. He actually refrained from smoking because I mentioned over the phone when I first enquire about his fees, that I can't stand cigarettes and i thought he was a non-smoker till we reached our destination and he lit up at a place he knew would get the wind blowing the puffs away from where I am.

It was a partly-cloudy day during my visit and I managed to see the rainbow (which loved playing peekaboo) every time the clouds clear and the sun can penetrate through. On very sunny days, one can see a double rainbow at the fall. We managed to catch just a single rainbow and that made me happy enough.

The pool around the fall is also shallow (waist deep) and perfect for relaxing and playing in the water. It is very clear and clean and Teck and a fellow guide even caught a shrimp to show us how the water is clean enough to support lifeforms. I also appreciate Teck for not rushing us (me and two others also using his service up), and we were the last group to leave the waterfall. We stayed till the rainbow disappeared. The rainbow is only visible at certain hours based on the angle of the sun against the water, and that's usually between 9:30-10:30am.

What made this journey even better was that he picked up every single piece of trash we encounter on the way down. I'm glad I found him as a guide. Dedicated locals (who also serve as guides) keeps this place as it should be. They keep the trails, they steady rocks (which i got to know when I saw Teck placing smaller stones under wobbly rocks), the ropes were recently added last year, and even maintain the toilet they built there. Awesome community involvement! :)

On our way back, I noticed some unusual animal paw print on the mud trails, and Teck mentioned it's a tapir's print. Made me feel even happier! :) I saw a tapir print! Yay!!!

As the waterfall is located within a forest reserve, it's beautiful, and even though the journey there and back is beautiful, be prepared for some parts at the initial stage where logging has stripped some of the magnificent trees on the hills...

This place is so beautiful and clean, I'm thinking of when to go again...

Getting to the waterfall itself is exciting and adventurous on a 1hr 10mis 4WD drive, with over hanging branches once in a while and remember to duck or if u don't mind being wack by the branches. follow by another very interesting 40mins hike up with river crossing to the waterfall, it can be tiring if u have never workout before. Once u get to the waterfall the view is beautiful...and we can't wait to get into the waterfall to touch the rainbow and be surrounded by the rainbow.

Organize your transport in Sungai Lembing or with the Tourist Office in Kuantan and you will head off around 6:30am from the local food court in the town center.
It is about 1 hour drive on a 4WD, quite bumpy in the back (I would not recommend the trip for people with back or disc problems. You will finally stop your drive at a river. Get ready to cross the river where you might get wet. Then you hike up the mountain along the river for around 90 minutes until you reach the waterfall. You cross the small river several times and you climb over rocks. It might be slippery. We went up with our two boys, 6 and 5, and they were fine and enjoyed it.
It is beautiful up there, although we didn't have a rainbow because it was a cloudy day. So we definitely have to go back!
Bring waterproof shoes. Local guides come with flip flops, but I couldn't manage. Hiking shoes might be too much as you have to take them off several times.
Don't forget mosquito repellent.
