Beautiful, peaceful snorkeling in safe coved area in north shore. Bring water shoes since the lava rocks are sharp. You don't even need snorkel fins since you can float around the cove easily. Underwater camera or Go_pro are a must to catch the beautiful underwater footage. Bonus across the street are the north shore foodtrucks for good eats after a snorkeling sesh. Then hang out at Sunset beach or Pipeline which is only a mile away.

Staying at Turtle Bay, we wanted to try out a better snorkeling spot. We LOVED sharks cove. Tons of beautiful fish and a turtle too!

We picked sharks cove to snorkel and it was gorgeous! Very little coral left but lots of beautiful fish and turtles! Get there early for parking

Best snorkeling experience in Oahu. A bit crowded but options for both experienced and inexperienced snorkelers. Lots of fish and some coral. We were lucky enough to see some turtles too.
Excellent, professional surf shop across the road where you can hire everything you need.
Food trucks sell a quick, tasty lunch and try a shave ice too before heading back to Waikiki.

We tried to book Hanauma bay for days but couldn't get a slot. Someone told us about sharks cove and we stopped while driving around the island. It is a busy spot so get there early but it is worth it. Great for snorkeling with a huge variety of fish and if you are as lucky as we were you might even get to see some turtles.

Sharks Cove is a beautiful snorkeling spot but check the surf report for low waves before going. Please do NOT feed the fish, as another visitor recommends below. This is prohibited at marine preserves like Hanauma Bay and strongly discouraged at other snorkeling spots in Hawaii. It pollutes the water and changes the behavior of the fish. Please use reef safe sunscreen and do not introduce any pollutants to the water!

Sharks cove was SO much fun to snorkel. We brought some leftover tuna from our fishing trip & fed fish. There were hundreds of them! The peacock grouper & the moray eel were probably the most interesting, but the large schools were fascinating to swim through. Would definitely return! Calm water. Easy snorkel.

The best place to see tons of fish. We went to Hanauma as well but Sharks Cove had more fish and less people. It was tough to get in and out of the bay, because the rocks are odd shape and slippery. We had water shoes on, but it was still tough to get in and out. But the fish….omg the second you put your head under it was massive fish pod right there. I had a few issues with swimmers itch and I broke my toe after I slipped trying to come out of the water. ( I had water socks on but my foot slipped and wedged in between the rocks). But I got amazing footage on my iPhone.

Great location to go snorkeling, just make sure to bring your water shoes, there are tons of rocks and of course sea urchins!
