More
See the beautiful, the rare and the unexpected at the National Library of Australia on the shores of Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin. The ever-changing Treasures Gallery gives you free access to some of Australia's most moving stories. Make the journey and be intrigued, surprised, challenged and amazed by the stories these unique treasures tell. Highlights include material from the 1967 referendum and the campaign for Indigenous rights, as well as intriguing items from the life of poet Henry Lawson, including his fob watch and two of his pens. Enjoy unparalleled access to Australia's documentary heritage including books, serials, maps, newspapers, music and ephemera. Take in an exhibition, join a tour, browse the bookshop, or enjoy a bite to eat at Bookplate Cafe, taking in the lake-side views. Exhibition galleries are open from 10am to 5pm daily (except Christmas Day and Good Friday). Hours vary for the reading rooms, NLA Bookshop and Bookplate. Please see nla.gov.au/visit-us/opening-hours to plan your visit.

It is hard to believe that this is the first time I have been to the national library. With so much to see and do in Canberra, this has just not previously fit into our schedule. It is definitely worth a visit as the building...More

Not only is this building in a fantastic location next to the Lake, but it a source of such wonderful Australian history. While not appealing to family groups, this is good location to visit if you want to do some family or local history research.

This is an amazing place. A collection of early Australian artefacts and historical sources. Cptn Cooks journal, furniture, Dutch maps, artists journals on display as well as a beautiful cafe, shop and of course library. A must see!

I would recommend free guided tours. Especially 'behind the scenes' one. Extremely knowledgable and attentive guides. You would not regret because you will meet librarian robot Isaak. Library facilities are great. Pleasant environment for the visitors and researchers. Coffeeshop in the library is great. As...More

Beautiful building and nice to see. It's a reference library so it's not a general library. Lots of rooms to read in and study. Exhibition were nice.

We spent around an hour in the museum at he Library which according to the tour guide, contained a collection of objects that didn't really fit into a major museums collection. However, it did contain a lot of early Australian diaries from the likes of...More

If you are like me and not interested in libraries, you would not be bothered to go to this Library. But there is a hidden gem in 1 of the rooms called the the Treasures gallery. For history buffs or people interested in Australia's early...More
