The NGA provides a wide canvas of Australian and international artworks, displayed in an architecturally unique building. The permanent displays of Australian, including Indigenous, art is worthy of viewing. The special exhibitions over the years have been exceptional. Outside is a fascinating sculpture garden set amongst an Australian native garden, beautifully located on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. Tour... More

We stopped in to see the war artists exhibition and werent dissappointed. I hadnt been to the gallery for a couple of years but the exhibits were really good. There are some interesting exhibits currently reflecting on our past and our indigenoius peoples; very powerful and beautiful.

There is always and exhibition to see, especially in the contemporary space, the gift shop is wonderful, and the kids play space is great for everyone. Even grown-ups.

The National Gallery is beautifully situated near Lake Burley Griffin and the gardens are truly enjoyable to wander through. There are stunning sculptures and water features but the stand out is James Turrell's 'Skyspace' and the work is titled' Within without ' It is magnificent! The Gallery is a lovely place to have coffee and enjoy the view.

The building is superb, the collection equally so but above all I would recommend the aboriginal art is the centre piece of a coherent and intelligently curated set of exhibitions. This national collection although small by the standards of some countries, combines the very best of Australian art with the wider world. I loved the movement through the building, the... More

This was one of the many attractions we visited whilst in Canberra. To myself and partner it was very interesting, but my children became a little bored due to the amount of time we spent there. It has some amazing artworks and is well worth a visit.

The gallery is obviously great for Blue Poles etc and a fine Indigenous collection. However, what was unexpected was free weekend parking and a beautiful spot for the café overlooking the gardens and some simple café selections for lunch. Very relaxing and a nice adjunct to a great gallery. And Ned Kelly!

I recently visit the NGA and I was very impressed by their collection of Australian artist from the 19th century onwards. Also, it has an extensive aboriginal art collection. Moreover, the Gallery has a large collection of art from around the world, from Asia to Europe. A place not to miss if you are in Canberra.
