Very close to the circular quay and an easy walk from the quay is The Rocks with its many buildings from the late 19th and early 20th century. A number of nice restaurants can also be found here.

Hi Michael, not sure abiut small/boutique hotels in the rock area. Take a look at the Radisson Hotel which is a nice walk down to the rocks, however this is not a small boutique hotel but you will not be disappointed.
