We visited the markets on a Sunday and were fascinated by the talent of many of the artists that sell their creations. Prices are reasonable considering they are often unique and hand made. The atmosphere is fun, the stall holders are friendly and helpful without being pushy. Definitely worth a visit.

We did the Ricks walk and visited many if the highlights! There is so much to see and do as well as visit the market stalls. We spent over half a day just walking the various routes and points of interest. A must see location!

I did a walking tour. Very good for history and non-history buffs. This area almost was demolished many years ago. I am glad it was preserved.

On the occasions when I'm in Sydney for work I usually try to stay in the Rocks. It has interesting buildings, lane ways, hotels, and restaurants. You can always amuse yourself just by wandering around.

The Rocks is a touristy area in Sydney's city centre. It is located on the south shore of Sydney Harbour, north west of the Sydney CBD. The area contains great views of the Harbor, the Opera House and the Bridge. You can catch a ferry from this area and also can visit lots of good restaurants and bars. Great area... More

Lovely old restored original area of Sydney to explore with little alleyways and individual shops. Plenty of good restaurants and excellent information centre where you also book trips and buy the essential Opal card which works just like an Oyster card in London and is tap on and off for all public transport.

Traveling to Sydney Australia on a business trip was a blessing in disguise. What a grand surprise to find out that this is one of the most beautiful places on earth! Staying at The Rocks was definitely the best experience for a first timer. Morning walks to the Opera House, easy access to the business area, great local pubs and... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
