I've been to Sydney a number of times and the Rocks is worth visiting. It is close to Circular Quay and the free walking tours provide a great historical perspective to the area. Lots of stairs.

This is a great neighborhood for walking if you want to experience a bit more of the city than a typical tourist might. Lots of history in this area by the docks. We were there on a Saturday for the weekend market, which was pricey but interesting, with some handicrafts.

We stayed in the Rocks. I love how much character this part of the city has. There are many very old buildings. The Rocks are full of charming little restaurants and boutiques. This is where you will find little art galleries with emerging artists. The hills are steep which makes the walks challenging but fun. The views can be spectacular-... More

A great place to wander and find a few hidden treasures, be it shops, restaurants, cafés or bars. Something for everyone.

The Rocks are well worth a visit. There are many old and interesting buildings. There is a good variety of shops and eateries. Care needs to be taken in some of the lane ways, as the ground is somewhat uneven. The only downside is the continuous growth of 'tourist shops'.

I particularly enjoyed the Ken Done Gallery - with a good mixture of expensive works and affordable prints. Also there were plenty of lovely cafes to choose from.

The Rocks is a nice area of Sydney located close to the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. The area is lined with pubs and restaurants. On Sundays there is an open-air crafts market with local artisans. We particularly enjoyed dining at The Rocks Pub which had good food and reasonable prices.

Nice place to visit for the local flea markets. You can find a number of local handicrafts work here. Good for those who wish to get some handicraft for souvenirs.

Lots of interesting shops and older architecture near Circular Quay. Some uneven and slope surfaces, so best to take care while walking.

Visited the Rock just before NY and this a jam pf history. The streets are so pretty and the small art shops are just amazing. We can do the nurse walk which is really interesting.

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
