You can see the effort put into making this area look better than it used to. There are some swank eateries and boutique shops. The main strip near the train station could get a little weird at night. It is nice to sit in a cafe and watch the world go by. There are some 'specimens of humanity'.

We went to this neighborhood on our way to the Jewish Museum. It has a totally different feel then the tourist section of Sydney. In addition to going to the museum, we sat in a local park and had lunch in one of the restaurants on Victoria street. It was nice to experience a different vibe from Sydney's business.

A happening place at night. Wonderful selection of eateries. Felt totally safe exploring. A seedy side but not threatening. Some interesting characters. Great people watching.

seems to have lost it's vibrancy or something, now quite rundown and scruffy, the redeeming feature is the fountain and some sculpture

We really enjoyed walking the streets of The Cross reading the brass plaques that tell of the cities past. Once a renowned part of Australia's seedy past it is now a cosmopolitan part of Sydney with cafes and shops to delight most travellers.

Look you have to go once while in Sydney. But from the sex shops and filthy streets. I would suggest there are plenty of other locations to go to - i would not suggest staying here! Being from melbourne, I went here to find somewhere to eat - feeling totally uncomfortable, I left and decided to have dinner at our... More

The Cross has excellent restaurants, if you can avoid the faux seedy surroundings. Just stay out of the main road.

Last reviewer got it right re identity crisis, It's a bit of everything. saw it last night at its worst, sleazy, scary, police arresting a couple of guys, yet hundreds of young people thronging around bars - obviously fun for some , less than others. A different atmosphere in the morning , boring but parents taking their families for a... More

King's Cross is having an identity crisis. It's a bit sleazy, a bit hip, a bit touristy, sort of half way cleaned up and now a bit lost and aimless, like someone trying on 'bag lady' as a bohemian look.
