Pros (1) fantastic water & city views in Sydney (2) many good restaurants & shops (3) near Sydney Aquarium & Madam Tussauds & Wild Life (4) When the weather is good, the water colour is beautiful. (5) Nights views are also fantastic. Cons (1) Some restaurants are quite expensive. (2) Not a lot of taxies are available, especially Friday evening... More

This place is really fun (and huge) There's many eateries and bars and shops and everything else you might want. This is a great place to walk around or simply stop and rest and relax. Many tours and cruises stop here as well. This is a fun place just to hang out.

Had a wonder around just to see the Christmas fireworks. Great choice of restaurants however very busy with adults so felt a bit uncomfortable taking children in them. More of a grown up place at night!

This was probably our favorite place to hang out while in Sydney. We could easily walk from our hotel to the Pymont Bridge and then circle Cockle Bay, which is lined with several very nice restaurants and bars that take full advantage of the bay. This place was very well done.

The School has the formal at Dockside. 1st floor overlooking darling Harbour just a stunning venue and yes as parents we were invited to the formal you can eat just about any cuisine along the wharf or even grab a bottle of wine and sit and watch the sun set and the world go by

A great place mid Darling Harbour with many restaurants overlooking the water. Close to family attractions and shopping, most restaurants offer blackboard special meals at a reasonable cost. A nice place out of, but close to the city area, to spend a relaxing day enjoying a meal with family or friends.

I attended an evening function at Dockside (The Balcony Level, Cockle Bay Wharf) mid-week. It's a fabulous venue - great views over the water, a room that easily accommodated 400 guests (including dance floor, stage & photo booth), and amazing food. Taxis can drop you off at Wheat Street (directly leads into the venue's escalators) - this is a bonus,... More

Staying in Darling Harbour

Neighbourhood Profile
Darling Harbour
The original docklands of Darling Harbour have been transformed into a tourist mecca with entertainment for the whole family. Cockle Bay Wharf offers dining options from budget to upscale and million dollar views of the harbour. Young crowds gather on weekends for nightlife that ranges from salsa clubs to Dj’s. Families can visit the Chinese Gardens of Friendship or the Sydney Aquarium, one of the largest in the world. The Sydney Maritime Museum and the IMAX theatre are also popular attractions. The Harbourside Shopping Centre is a site unto itself, with hundreds of shops, restaurants and bars. On Saturdays in the summer, the city puts on a spectacular fireworks show along the harbour's shore and there are plenty of other free events during the year - Darling Harbour Fiesta, VIVID’s light installations and the Sydney Festival, just to name a few.
