We were helped by a staff member that appeared to be not of original Australian descent. (sorry, since we do not have a name, this is the best way to describe him) He was not very motivated and tried to stir us away from all the free attractions. He told us not to take the public ferry to Manly because... More

If you didn't get to book anything in advance, the centre is where to go. James, Sales Manager, is like a docent in knowledge level. He helped guide us to all of the tours and sites we had dreamed of doing. And they book it for you all right there. And great value!

What you would expect from a visitor's center. Lots of brochures, maps and helpful information. Although I came prepared with maps and information on what I wanted to do, I still found some ideas from browsing around. Knowledgeable staff also. In The Rocks area.

We found this centre located within The Rocks Centre building on our way back from the Harbour Bridge. On the ground floor are souvenir shops. Although I had no intention of going there, I found out that this centre has all information on Sydney and its attractions. I bought my Hop On Hop Off Bus ticket here. The counter staff... More

The Sydney Visitors Centre in The Rocks is another great NSW Visitors Centre staffed by knowledgable and enthusiastic people who provide good information to travellers. Good selection of brochures and maps to assist in trip planning. Recommended.

We went in and received some bad advice for our proposed spit heat to Manly walk. As a result we had to change our plans and will have to do this on our next visit

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
