Circular Quay is a colorful port where ferries and cruise ships board and depart, and boat watching can be as good a pastime as people watching. While street performers entertain outside, those wanting a more cultural experience can head into the Museum of Contemporary Art where a sculpture garden on the roof is as much a view as the waterways below.

Circular Quay is a good place to start when you visit Sydney. From here, it is a 5 minute walk to the Opera House and another 5 minutes along the foreshore will take you into the Botanic Gardens. You can walk up through the Gardens to the NSW Art Gallery, Hyde park, some of Sydney's early architecture and the City... More

Great space to wander along and view the harbour bridge, opera house and Sydney skyline. Busy area and lots of buskers and things to see. Grab a coffee from one of the many spots and watch the world go by. Nice green space on the western side for a picnic lunch. Fun to watch the cruise ships depart in early... More

The ferry terminal plus passenger liner terminal, has it's own train station and bus station as well. It's always busy but is great place to catch public transport to see the city and surrounds such as Bondi and Manly.

Weather you are people watching, boat watching or simply chilling at one of the many restaurants circular quay is the place to go. With the railway station and all the ferries it is an exciting hub of activity. From day to day you will see both street preforms and artists together with the homeless all finding an outlet. You are... More

Easy to access the cruise terminal on foot. Area was clean and spacious for the thousands of cruisers getting on and off the ship.

Whatever we did in Sydney we found ourselves at the Circular Quay to start the day. It is beautiful with the to and fro of boats and cruise liners. Lovely to spend time at sunset and beautiful with the moonlight.

A bustling hub for ferry, train and other transportation. Lots of street artists and activity, so the people watching is great.

You can get to just about anything you want to in Sydney from Circular Quay. You can walk to the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, Royal Botanic Gardens; or take the ferries or trains to just about anywhere you want to go. There are wonderful shops and restaurants right there within a two minute walk as well.

Take a walk around the Circular Quay area and enjoy the waters edge, the buskers, and the people traffic. There are simply amazing eating options here including Sydney Oyster Bar and Quay.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
