An average gay bar

Perhaps the afternoon is not the best time of day to check out a gay bar. It was fine enough and the beer cold and surprisingly the music wasn't too loud. Interesting, though.

A fine local however the security guards let this place down. Judge mental for no particular reason. There are more inviting places across the road at Palms. Spend your money elsewhere.

We had really fun on Wednesday 4th January, where they organized the "malebox" party. Drinks don't have alcohol as in Europe, but we appreciated it. Please, bring always your passport: after 10 pm you must be over 25 (they told me). Me and my partner are both over 25, so we had fun.

Very lively and busy venue. Sadly like all of Sydney, you cannot stay out late past the lock-out laws. It gets louder as you approach midnight, so bring your ear plugs. The host(ess) on Wednesday nights also runs a neighborhood "meals-on-heels" delivery program.

My partner and I stopped in here on a whim and had a great time. it was Drag Queen Trivia and the crowd was fun but not too raucous. Drinks were cheap and the people were friendly. What more can you ask for?

Here for the first time in a good few years. It was still the busiest (many other bars were extremely quiet). One night we were ushered into the smaller bar joined on next door after 1.30. It was much smaller (although quite nice) . Barmaid had a bit of attitude when I asked for the same draught beer I had... More

I came here a couple times. It seems to be the most happening place on Oxford Street, with drag shows on every night. One night I caught Lady VD (Verushka Darling) doing her problem solving clinic; just don't mention that you have a boyfriend. The other time I 'think' I caught bad drag night (Sunday), but I can't be sure... More

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighbourhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
