We spent 4 days here and could've spent more. The new platypus park is the place to see platypus. It's cheap and we saw 4. Granite gorge was a fun surprise and the rock wallabies there are adorable! Hasties Swamp is free and we got to put several birds on our list. Lake Eachen is beautiful(but crowded) and very refreshing.... More

The Tablelands is our number one recommendation to any family and friends who visit. We escape from Cairns to the tablelands as often as we can. Great for weekends, day trips or even a week when we can fit it in. LOVE THE TABLELANDS!

There's plenty to do on the Tablelands. We've visited over Christmas 2016 and the hot air balloon, Lake Barinne, Lake Eachem, Millaa Millaa falls, Atherton lookout, Coffee in Mareeba, golf in Mareeba and Atherton are all good. Just don't expect FAST. The Tablelands is for relaxing, not maxing! Just one thing to avoid, do NOT take the Gillies highway as... More

My family of 4 (kids 11 and 13 yrs old) did a day trip from Cairns. Amazing diversity, really worthwhile day trip.

Following the great rainfall we have enjoyed in the region of late, I wanted to take a day trip to the Atherton Tablelands to, hopefully, see the waterfalls in their full glory. Four of the five were torrents, while Barron Gorge was a little disappointing - saved by the lovely walk on the boardwalk. Our preference is for quieter places... More

Always at least 5 degrees cooler on the Tablelands than in Cairns. Beautiful area and best to see driving by car.

Rolling green hills, spectacular waterfalls & rainforest everywhere! Atherton Tablelands exceeded our expectations. We stayed two nights but could easily have spent longer. Plenty to do and see for free or else also some paid attractions around. Get to the waterfalls (any of them) early (8-9am) and you may be lucky enough to have them to yourself.

We rented a car and drove out to the Milla Milla waterfalls for a day trip. We didn't go in the water but instead took pictures and just enjoyed the view for a bit. We headed back and stopped at Lake Barrine which was even more beautiful! The lake was honestly one of the most gorgeous I've ever seen and... More

The volcanic crater lakes, the waterfalls, the food, the diversity of this area needs to be seen and experienced.

We loved our drive here. Unfortunately the Gillies highway is very windy so my little one did get car sick. But so many beautiful spots to stop and see and take gorgeous photos. Definitely worth the drive.
