Just metres short of a mountain, Castle Hill is the giant pink granite monolith that stands proud in the centre of Townsville - a perfect place for visitors to orientate themselves. As well as offering vehicle access, Castle Hill provides a number of popular walking tracks, which are frequented by more than 2,500 locals a day! The 360-degree views of Townsville at the top are well worth the journey. Be sure to have a camera on hand, particularly for sunrise or sunset as these are photo opportunities which shouldn't be missed. As well as offering an iconic centre piece for the city and spectacular scenic views, Castle Hill has a significant history. The Hill's vantage was used by visiting American soldiers during World War II. According to local legend, the visitors famously offered to demolish the hill and use the rock to build a bridge to Magnetic Island. A World War II observation bunker sits on one corner of the Hill reminding visitors of Castle Hill's military history. Castle Hill facilities include car parking, public amenities, drink fountains and shaded seating to enjoy while taking in some of the best views of the city and across to Magnetic Island.

Takes you bit more than 30 min to go up and then enjoy the amazing view. Also a Little workout at the same time due to the huge stairs Haha. We’ve done the goat track, I recommend it.

Wonderful view of the city, a must see in Townsville, parking can be a little bit difficult, don’t try and take your caravan, make sure you take good walking shoes

You can't go to Townsville without going up Castle Hill. It's the best place to see 360 degrees of Townsville. Drive up or be like s local and walk up. Don't be misled st the name it's only about a metre shorter than a mountain!

You can do it by car or walk, quite challenging to walk. the view is breathtaking and a full 360 degrees of seeing Townsville. Well planned and well maintained, a few challenging walkways but worth the effort, not to be missed and no cost involved

On a clear day you can see The Palm Island Group, the beaches of Magnetic island's west point, the suburbs of Townsville when the sun is setting, just beautiful, Mt Stuart in the distance sometimes with it's head in the clouds.

A great spot to look over the city when you first arrive or before you leave. Take it easy if driving as Road is narrow and runners share it with cars. Can see the whole city and out to magnetic island. Even if driving take...More

Either walk/run up the hill drive up (which I did) to explore the hinterland overlooking Townsville & out to Magnetic Island whilst during sunset. Very nice place to take photos!

No trip to Townsville would be complete without the winding drive up to the top of Castle Hill. Magnificent views of the city and surrounding area is worth the drive. Do yourself a favour and have a look!
