Capture a great overview of Townsville with a visit to Mount Stuart....

Capture a great overview of Townsville with a visit to Mount Stuart. Providing views overlooking the entire city and across to Magnetic Island and Cleveland Bay, Mount Stuart is a great way for visitors to get their bearings before further exploring Townsville North Queensland. Walk, run, ride or drive to the top of the 9km road, but if you plan to tackle it by foot ensure you have a good level of fitness and plenty of water as it is a steep climb in areas. Once you reach the top of Mount Stuart, enjoy the breezes, relax with a picnic, take in the views or further explore the short bush walks around the area.

We visited Townsville in May 2017 - and went to visit the view form Mt.Stuart. The mount is a approximatley 20+ km's. from Townsville but certainly worth the trip for the view - spectacular - and keep an eye for the small grave (pet grave?) just next to the viewing stand - well owrth a visit - when we were... This gives you another perspective of Townsville but from further away than Castle Hill. Again best to pick a clear day if you can to maximize the view. Take care driving up and look out for walkers

It gave a different perspective again after going to Castle Hill from further away. There were heaps of butterflies which was just delightful and the views took my breath away. It was worth the drive there to enjoy it.

Be careful of people walking up and down, some corners are a bit small. But, will be rewarded of oceans view once to the top. Lots of walking tracks around.

A sign advising that Mount Stuart is a location to view butterflies - sadly we did not see any which was disappointing as I do love butterflies! However, the view was amazing - could see all the way to the sea or was it a bay? The rugged terrain meant one had to do a little bit of minor mountaineering... More

The trip up to Mount Stuart is both quick (15 min drive) and pleasant with a decent road with a not so-scary ascent/decent. Its location behind the city of Townsville generally means most don't visit but it is well worth the slightly shorter ascent because the views are far more expansive than Castle Hill. Caravans could probably make the trip... More

The view will start a few minutes when one starts driving up to the top. Park the car and walk to the lookout. Townsville and surrounding area is at your feet. On a day day the view extends all the way to the Palm island group and Hinchenbrook. After enjoying the scenery, go for a little walk, follow the path... More
