This tour was recommended to us by our hotel. We just missed the morning tour (10:00am) but spent our time learning all about opals and viewing them in the display cases from the knowledgable staff. Once the tour we missed was done, we got to talk to a former opal miner (Rudy) who told us all about actually mining opals... More

Very good museum. I learned a lot about opals, mining practices, dinosaurs and Aboriginal people. The history of Coober Pedy is also shown I recommend it.

Lots of opal jewellery to view and buy. A museum and go down deeper into an old working mine and living quarters. You have to do this one

Didn't do the tour but talked with the staff about the opals and would have bought some if I had plenty of $$$$$$.

I think that is one of the most important place to visit in Coober Pedy to understand its history and culture. The museum shows everything about opal mining as well as helps you to understand the people who live there today.

This was the highlight of CP just to see, read and listen about history of CP. Never forget the photo of the entrance to the underground bank, that was funny.

We stayed at the accommodation next to the museum for one night in September 2016. The accommodation was much like a hostel - bunk beds with one bathroom. We could also walk up to the main ablutions block to use the sinks, toilets and showers there. We also had a small kitchen with a fridge which was good. It's pretty... More

Very interesting. You learn all about opal mining from when it started to the present day. In the museum you get to see the old mines and see how they used to extract the opal and where the miners used to live. You also see how they clean the opals. The shop is lovely with many different specimens at a... More
