The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is Australia's second-oldest established in 1818. These gardens are home to the largest collection of mature conifers in the Southern Hemisphere and it also has the only subantarctic plant house in the world. Melbourne and Sydney's gardens are great, but Hobarts is also up to the mark with rolling hills, lush lawns, conservatory and produce gardens. Our Kids loved it here with real learning opportunities in the produce gardens and great places for an epic game of hide and seek ! Its free and there is parking right by the gate, tourist busses... The beautifully maintained gardens are just so nice to walk amongst. Plenty of park benches just to sit and enjoy the great gardens, or sit on the nicely manicured lawns. Visit the famous vegi patch which is used on gardening Australia sometimes. There is plenty of gardens to see so alow 2 - 3 hours. The cafe also makes a... More

Very convenient for the airport as a stop off to or from. Also has a decent café with a range of food. Good for birdwatching as well as the gardens.

Some nice big Huon pines (for a Huon pine), giant sequoias and a good selection of plants from around the world. I really enjoyed the conifers, succulents and cactus garden (pity that there was no peyote cactus however I'm being picky - no pun intended). One particular attraction was Antarctic plants- the only one in the world literally. The room... More

The day we visited, the weather was warm and no wind. The gardens are a relaxing place to spend time. We loved the Japanese Garden. We visited over the wooden Boat Festival Weekend and waited over 30 mins for a table but our coffees arrived quickly after ordering. The gardens are well worth a visit. Need to catch a bus... More

The gardens are expansive and well maintained with beautiful large trees. Situated beside the derwent river there are a lot of opportunities for photos. We were there for a short visit and the staff directed us to the Antarctica gardens. Apparently you won't see these plants any where else in the world unless you go to Antarctica. The location can... I walked up to the gardens from the city, which was pleasant, albeit a little further than I had thought. On a mild sunny day the gardens were very attractive, from the gardens to the lawns. On weekends it might get a little busy with people picnicking or doing I'm-beautiful photo shoots;) There could be better labelling and maps. Please... More

Nice afternoon strolling through the gardens, very pretty. Not really that exciting but as nature lovers and plant and flower lovers we enjoyed being here for a couple of hrs, walking around the bay walk to get there and back, it prob took about 35 mins each way

We stopped by in the morning on the way to the airport to tour the gardens and take pictures of some of their well kept plants. We had an pleasant lunch in the visitor center terrace overlooking the gardens. It was a very pleasant and relaxing morning.
