Combine this with a visit to Narryna

Interesting to visit a home that was not colonial and understand how this perhaps unusual family lived.

Went on the spur of the moment having seen the sign outside. A time capsule of one mans life growing up here. Beautiful 1920"s home with original family furniture including old toys belonging to the lifetime occupant. Garden needs some weeding but I'm sure at times it would look spectacular, just not the season we saw it in.

This was my fave historic house. Originally built in the 1920s and lived in by the same family for all that time. The best thing is they never threw anything away so have over 4000 objects. Obviously not everything can be displayed but what is available is interesting and varied with little gems. The garden was beautiful perhaps for the... More

Anyone who appreciates Arts and Crafts design will love visiting Markree House. My daughter and I were lucky enough to have a personal tour with Philippa who shared her knowledge and insights about the house and the family's history in a wonderfully down-to-earth yet passionate way. As a local to Hobart I enjoyed the opportunity to see a glimpse of... More

If you get an opportunity to visit here it is well worth the experience. It is a snap shot of how people lived. Reminded me very much of my childhood. Everything is in its original condition.

Markree House tends to only be open on special occasions. I had been told the interior was a sight to see as it had been left as it was given to TMAG, and was in original condition. As it turns out the bare bones of the house itself are beautiful but the contents are sparse, the displays a bit dull... More

A rare chance to explore a stylish and significant example of a 1920s house from the arts and crafts movement. A terrific tour showing rooms and authentic objects and furniture of the original owners. A beautiful garden with old roses and plants right next to the city centre.

Visiting Markree House in Hobart was a fantastic experience. It is a fine example of arts and crafts architecture and landscaping and contains its original 1910-20s furnishings and fittings. Henry Baldwin, who lived there from 1919-2007 and barely changed a thing from the time his parents built the house, bequeathed it to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG). It... More

Amazing house left as it was built, lived in by one owner and complete with original furniture. Easy to walk to from town. Guided tours inexpensive.
