Enjoy the sights, sounds, flavours, action and colour of Australia's best...

Enjoy the sights, sounds, flavours, action and colour of Australia's best outdoor market - proudly operated by the City of Hobart - every Saturday from 8:30am to 3:00pm at Hobart's Salamanca Place.

Set between graceful plane trees and the mellow sandstone facades of historic warehouses, Hobart's famous market at Salamanca Place attracts thousands of locals and visitors, every Saturday of the year.

They come to visit more than 300 stalls for the food and music, fresh fruit, crisp organic vegetables, hot baked spuds, the warm aroma of a coffee and croissant, buskers singing the blues, stroking a harp or strumming a lively folk song.

They come for breakfast, scrambled eggs and orange juice at a Salamanca cafe, then a stroll along the hundreds of stalls, meeting friendly people who make or grow what they sell.

Salamanca Market highlights fine Tasmanian art & craft including hand-worked glass, innovative design in Tasmanian timbers, stylish clothing and bold ceramics.

Salamanca Market is close to historic St David's Park on the fringe of Hobart's central business district. From the market, it's a short climb up Kelly's Steps to reach the Georgian cottages and the village atmosphere of Battery Point.

Hobart's picturesque waterfront is also nearby - cross Salamanca lawns to the docks, where hard-working fishing boats are berthed close to cruising yachts and a square-rigger or two.

Lovely market with lots of fresh produce, food stalls, artisanal foodstuff, and handcrafted products. Lots of nice cafes and eateries in the vicinity. Recommend to visit early as it was already bustling at 10am on Sunday.

The hundreds of stalls offer a good selection of quality handicrafts, clothing, jewellery and food products, mainly at good prices. Also fresh fruit etc. There is a wide selection of takeaway food, with adjacent sit-down establishments. Well catered for with seating (including bean bags) on the southern adjoining lawns (but for some reason, not on the north end), and plenty... More

The markets had a lot of different and interesting foods, perishables and other products. The sellers were all lovely and helpful but some of the crowd were quite rude. At times it was difficult to walk due to the number of people. You need several hours to walk up and down all the stalls

Crepes for breakfast was a great way to start the day. There was so much to see and do. Was good just walking around soaking up the atmosphere. The only let down is the parking I had to go back and feed the meter a couple of times.

My first time to the market. I have been to Tassie 9 years ago and absolutely loved it. We missed the market last time but made it this time around. It took us surely about 3 hours to see it all. As expected, this is a great market and I will return in the time to come. Here you'll find... More

This market is not to be missed when in Hobart. Even though I have been before there are plenty of new things to look at. Make your visit early rather than later as it does get very busy and no one wants to be there when stalls are packing up. Plenty of Huon pine, wooden items, food, antiquities, clothing and... More

Everything is aimed at the tourist - overpriced. But it is worth a visit just to soak up the atmosphere and see what Tasmania has to offer. We booked a tour for the next day so that was handy. Behind the main market area beautiful buildings open into a lovely plaza. Make sure you explore. We then walked along the... More

Great morning out even our teenagers enjoyed. My husband is always a bit picky about markets but he even said he can't wait to go again. A good mixture of local arts craft and some local food. Tip if starting close Uber instead of driving as parking is difficult on market day.
