It is my local library but enjoy the Allport museum show casing Hobart past. The displays change regularly so it is a good excuse to wander in and wonder whats on.

It would be easy to miss this gem in the public library but it is definitely worth a visit. The collection is that of a lawyer and his family and left to the state. The art, porcelain, furniture collected over his lifetime are wonderfully displayed and explained in small rooms set up as rooms in a Victorian era home of... More

A gorgeous if smallish museum tucked away on the ground floor of the Hobart Library. Rooms set up as from the Allports' House a lot of detail and attention paid. The family library was wonderful to look at. A very interesting temporary modern art exhibition was also housed in there that I very much enjoyed.

With a few hours to spare one day, my friend and I decided to go inside for a look and what a surprise it was. I could have stayed there for hours. There's so much detail and care in the way it's set out. Incredible collection and it's like you're in your grandmother's home. Most definitely a place to visit.

Little museum with "rooms" displaying antiquities from the Allport family dating back to 1700s. Full of charm. Free admission.

We had heard a lot about MONA but had never had the time to get there. The ferry was good, the trip smooth and MONA itself was simply amazing. Floor after floor of beautiful presentations and attractions. Would highly recommend both the ferry trip over and MONA .

Tucked away on the ground floor of the main Hobart Library, many locals would never even know this exists. Wonderful permanent exhibits, in this small museum, and also very good temporary exhibitions, so worth visiting regularly

..... or, at least, for those with a more mature taste, or an interest in colonial history! This museum, though almost hidden away in the State Library is, without doubt for me, one of Hobart's highlights, and more than worth at least a couple of hours of leisurely exploration. The collection of antique furniture, books and papers, paintings, glass, silverware... More

Taken by locals to see this great collection of furniture, pictures etc etc. This is the library to do Tasmanian history in depth.
