This is a nice easy walk for all ages taking in the history of the old outer circle railway. The section I recommend is from Harp Riad East Kew to Hartwell as it offers the best insight to the steam trains that operated in the 1890:s. Allow one and half hours to do this section with rest stops. The trail... More

The complete trail is probably too much to do in one attempt, but it can be done in stages as it is crossed by a number of tram and railway lines and also reached by buses. In total it goes from Alphington on the Heidelberg railway line to Hughesdale on the line to Dandenong. This segment is the Southern half,... More

It is always a delight walking along this ex-railway line, as people are friendly and there are a few pleasant surprises to be hoped for. The trail is wide and level, as rail trails usually are, making for easy walking. Not needing to look down for obstacles means we can look up at the bird life. The many self-sown(?) prunus... More

The Outer Circle Rail Trail was part of a reservation intended carry a railway line to link Melbourne's outer suburban radial railway lines, thereby making transfers quick and convenient. Like a lot of good ideas, it ran head first into financial reality and the plan was dropped, but he reseravation remained.. The Outer Circle Rail Trail is very popular with... More

The Outer Circle Rail Train is on the reservation for a line that was to link Melbourne's suburban radial rail system by never did. "Economics" is cited as the reason why the Outer Circle Line was never completed. The misfortune of Melbourne rail travellers has been offset by benefits to cyclists and walkers, who can travel as far as tony... More

I regularly take this trail for exercise with friends and also to exercise the dog 🐕. It provides a variety of gentle grades and scenery away from the bustle of traffic in adjoining suburbia. Long or short, take a walk and enjoy the talk with a companion. If you feel inclined, stop off for a coffee at High St Ashburton,... More

Get on the mountain bike and do it !!!! A heap of fun, very picturesque, easy cycling but could be a challenge for some based on the 18Km ride but well worth the trip. Love it !!!

Just under 20km it's a good bike path. You need to have a reasonable amount of fitness to complete but it's very pleasant.

Being built on a disused railway track, this trail is both picturesque and fairly flat. I find it preferable to walk the trail from North to South, especially on a sunny day. It can be joined from many roads and parks, and the trail also crosses the Box Hill to Port Melbourne tram line at Deepened. The trail begins or... More
