On the weekend I went to the thousands steps. Being a nice day and a weekend it was very busy as is to be expected so the carpark was completely full. My friend and I found a park on the side of the road that appeared to be OK to park in. There were at least twenty other cars parked... More

Tree Fern Gully Track (no relation to Fern Gully movie sadly) was an enchanting hike for us recently when in the Melbourne CBD. Do the 1000 steps but be sure to know your limits and take your time if you need to, they can be challenging even for able bodied folk like us. There is lots of beautiful green space... More

Such a beautiful spot. The 1000 steps is pretty challenging for beginners but definitely worth the visit. It is educational and has plaques with information on the way up the stairs. In winter it can be a bit slippery. The beautiful sounds of the water running and the fresh air is just remarkable. It took less than half an hour... More

It is very close to Melbourne's CBD which makes it ideal for many locals as well as tourist, unfortunately I am not big on crowds

Very busy place on Anzac Day. It was a good hike, more challenging than I thought because the steps are uneven. Some are low and some high. Good day out, should have brought a picnic rug in a backpack.

Don't visit Melbourne without setting aside a few hours for a wonderful hike here. Groomed trails and a great combination of natural features and landscaped gardens make this a must see. No parking or admission fees a definite plus.

There are defibrillators on the side of the trails leading to the steps. This gives you an idea about the difficulty. We were told by locals the 1000 steps were a "mild" workout. It's not only extremes, it can be dangerous when the steps get slippery. As a mid 50 individual - it was significant leg work, but it is... More

The "1000 steps" is very very challenging!!! From the car park to the first step is about 1km up a steep hill. The steps are very narrow and the track is pretty steep. There is nothing at the top, no scenery at all. So unless you want a good work out, don't attempt. Don't bother if you have young children... More

I didn't realise how hard it is to get up the 1000 steps. yesterday was a bit warm, and secondly i forgot to get my waterbottle out of the car. great workout if you want to test your fitness out. some of the stairs are a bit steep but the view up the top is nice. the scenery is nice... More

Really only suitable for the very fit and certainly not too much in the non winter months. Many steps. Lovely forest. Part of the Dandenong Ranges Park. Maybe see a lyrebird nearby - or at least hear one?
