We were in Melbourne in May, and walking through the gardens was a lovely break from the hustle of the urban center. It is more parkland than botanic garden (e.g., Kew).

Start in the morning and allow yourself all day, just in case, take your time and enjoy, beautiful. Take a picnic basket and relax.

Easily one of the finest botanic gardens I have visited with delightful walks, a variety of different gardens and a beautiful lake. An ideal place to relax in the middle of a big, modern city!

We were lucky to have a sparkling autumn day to visit these gardens. Location close to the River and Shrine of Remembrance. The gardens are well signposted and maps very useful. The sort of place where one can spend an hour or half a day...More

I'm a botany buff, and this has to be one of my favorite Botanical Gardens. The collection is fantastic, well laid out and well labeled. Super collection of tree ferns, and my all time favorite: a broom tree.

The gardens are quite large and have an array of flora landscapes. There's birds singing, water fountains going, and at least 3 weddings every weekend. It's a lovely little escape from the city when you need a little nature fix.

No BBQ grills as far as I am aware but there are lots of electric ones in the neighbouring picnic areas by the Yarra River on the Northern boundary of the Gardens. Very popular at weekends.
How much is the entry fee? Thx

Hi, some are, but summer seems to be a bit later than normal this year. It would normally be the right time, but most are still a week or so away.
