Great night, pretentious crowd

Nice wee venue and a fantastic performance on the stage, marred only by a few folks in the crowd being annoyed at our group having a good time and being louder than whisper levels.

The only jazz club open on a Monday night in Melbourne and what a find. Big band really means big band ! We only stayed a short while but really enjoyed the show and atmosphere. It was just like the jazz club we visited in New York! Thanks Bennetts Lane. Go early to get a seat.

I've been a devotee of this great (but little) live jazz venue in inner city Melbourne for many years now and a recent trip had me dropping in mid-week for some live jazz presented by combo leader and horn player John Hoffman and very impressive young vocalist Elly Hoyt. Granted it's a small venue - or in reality 2 small... More

Great venue, but can get full, so get in early. Wide variety of gigs, very reasonably priced - entry, drinks and eats. Must come for the music though, not to chat during the set!

Bar staff nice, good selection of wine! Be prepared to follow the 'thou shall not move or enjoy the music' rule. We attended the Jim Morrison show on the 10th of September We arrived reasonably early buuuut still ended up on a bar leaner which was less than comfortable. The crowd were seated and not a sound or movement was... More

Stumbled upon Bennetts Lane last night and had a great time! $25 cover, $12 for a glass of wine and it's all so worth it. You can sit at a table or in the back on steps with pillows. Highly recommend if you're looking for live music on the weekend.

"Best Jazz Venue in Melbourne" only if you like standing between the bar and against the wall of the bathroom entry surrounded by pretentious jazz connoisseurs. An hour after the show started the lady at the door did not stop more patrons entering the venue already overcrowded and we were slowly pushed further into the actual toilet. There was no... More

Hard to find jazz club. Almost missed it. Only for google maps i would have walked right past it. Feels like a speakeasy. Went on a tuesday night so less crowded. Very small venue so feels very relaxed. Music was great, people in audience getting up to jam. Really good night out in melbourne if you just want a few... More

Hard to find tucked down a side street and with a door that doesn't open until it's time, this small jazz club attracts some well known names and some talented emerging artists. If you really want to get in make sure you book.

Laid back. Unpretentious Reasonably priced. Local talent sugar foot ramblers for $10. Only knock is that they finished at 11. We should have gotten there earliet

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
