A handy mall with many shops
We were staying in The Adnate just up Hay Street, so visited Hay Street Mall numerous times. We found the K-Mart was handy (it runs from Murray Street Mall through to Hay Street Mall), as well as Woolworths and a few other shops. There are many more shops than that, so it's definitely worth a visit. It was never busy the times we were there.

Mall is Perth's social and retail center
Hay Street Mall is a social and retail center to be found in the City of Perth. Hay Street Mall is much loved by residents and visitors alike. The seating appeals to international guests and Perth visitors who want to have a break. The Mall has come a long way since it was established years ago. The many trees provide shade during the day in Perth's hot summers. The Hay Street Mall becomes a beacon of light, when the Fairy Lights come alive along Hay Street every night

Lots of big brand names are present (ie Kmart, Woolworths, McDonalds) but it isn't the most exciting mall. It does get very crowded during the day, especially on weekends. If you're looking to have a 'proper' browse, I'd recommend looking at Murray Street Mall as well - the two malls combined will provide a more interesting experience.

Must say extremely disappointed in the people and atmosphere as a whole. Within five minutes of arriving two homeless couples were yelling abuse and were very aggressive. Next five minutes another homeless person begging us for money. Our anxiety levels through the roof never again. I would hate to be there at night.

Hay Street Mall is located in the center of Perth. It has places to rest and attractive retail outlets. It has improved greatly since it was first built. These days, there is a lot of greenery and tall trees. Hay Street Mall is a place for visitors to take in the city center.

Hay Street Mall is a well known shopping precinct in central Perth. It is busy during the week, although some of shop fronts are looking a little tired. It is evident that Covid has impacted on trade in the area, with a number of vacant shops. It is an easy walk through the mall.

I have been away from Perth for 4 months and was very surprised at the increased level of homeless people sleeping on the streets around the Hay and Murray malls. These people weren't the usual old hobos you get use to seeing, these were young 30-40 year olds, even couples, with there hand out or stopping you asking for smokes and money. Most were obviously on something the way they yelled out to who ever across the street or walking fast waving there arms around talking loudly to themselves. The peaceful little park at the top end of Hay St mall was once a clean place to sit and eat your lunch, now you have to sit amongst the discarded McDonalds paper bags and other rubbish. It was no better further south along Hay around the East Perth post office where a group of young men, again not in a sober or fit state of mind dominating the bus stop seats, not allowing the old or any one else to sit, again, this insistent yelling at people who may have been across the road. Standing back watching this all going on, it was easy to see the people who were waiting for the bus to arrive were uneasy having this group around then, especially with the behaviour and sudden erratic movements. So if you intend to to travel to Perth and walk around the CBD area, just be wary, it does not have the same safe feel about it that it had a year ago. Better still go to Adelaide Rundle mall, it has real character.

Lots of shops and malls along the street; you weren't have realised you had spent a ton until you are left with coins! :D

Walked over to Murray street mall and H&M to continue with more shopping experience. Both are just near Hay street mall.

Hay street is a normal shopping street which has streets off as well as malls. It wasn't anywhere near as good as some we experienced in WA.
