A very nice museum, with a good cafe for lunch. Covers a lot of subjects, beautifully presented. The information on the history of Maori and Europeans was worthwhile. The Maori artifacts were excellent. There were excellent children's activities on the second floor in the natural history areas. The War museum was very well done. Too much to talk about everything,... More

This museum is huge and very interesting. They had a wonderful temporary exhibit on New Zealand music which was lots of fun and gave us a great introduction to music we are not familiar with. The Maori exhibits were great. We paid extra to see the show and thought it was worthwhile. There are so many things to see here... More

This museum is located in a beautiful park and it would be hard to see all 3 floors in one visit. The main floor covers mainly Maori and nearby island culture and history. The second floor displays are of colonial times and artifacts from other countries. A lot of thought has been put into making these exhibits captivating and easy... More

A wonderful experience of the area. Attended a Maori dance event. Fantastic singing and dancing. The exhibit on volcano activity is incredible. The art, masks, outrigger and boats were incredible. A must see in Auckland. Use the hop on hop off bus for easy access to major attractions.

I was hoping for a lot more Maori culture - the little show was fun for the kids and the huge canoe is very impressive as is the meeting hall. The rest of the museum is dedicated to the world wars - yawn. The lady giving the museum tour was terrible. Every time she mentioned Maori she added "and stuff... More

There was a lot to view and learn at this museum but it was the most expensive museum I've ever visited with no audio tour available. I opted to view a Maori dance which was beautiful and well performed. They had some talented staff performing and I'm grateful they shared their culture with me. Worth a visit but beware the... Recently visited the museum and opted for the Tui package - this gave us access to the museum and an excellent thirty minute Maori cultural show. Thoroughly enjoyed by all and the Haka was a highlight. The museum, especially the Maori section was fascinating. Very enjoyable and recommended.

A visit here enlightened me as to the South Pacific migration to New Zealand's north and south islands. The Maori heritage and New Zealand's natural life are showcased, along with the nation's place in modern geo-political history.

Plenty of stuff to see and do, you can easily spend the whole day here with kids. Make sure you bring ID with you with your address so you can get in for free assuming you live in Auckland. Otherwise, you will have to pay a entry fee of $5 (from memory), and additional "donations" which you are not required.
