A good way to see the city

We enjoyed this walk. It was quite strenuous at times but worth the effort. Some great views of the city. A good opportunity to see different neighbourhoods and landscapes.

The Coast to Coast is a great way to see many parts of Auckland, including One Tree Hill and Mt Eden, which both offer super views. The walk is lengthy and hilly, so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. None of the visitor centres had a map of the walkway, so we were glad that we had printed one... More

A great urban walk covering everything from the quay, CBD, Mt Eden, One Tree Hill, the uni and some really nice sections of suburbia. A hard walk with plenty of hills, but worth the effort. Public transport at both ends, cafes along the way etc make it easier. Some markings along the way provide some comfort that you are on... More

Fantastic views, set in a great large park, you can drive up to the top at the moment but the Maori are trying to stop people from driving up to the top, Auckland people are upset about this as the road up to the top is very steep and you would need to be fit to walk it so this... More

The description of this walkway promises to bring you to some Auckland's attractions. We walked from the pacific to the tasman coast, but you can also choose to walk the other direction. Beginning at Auckland's harbour, most of the attractive and exciting spots were at the beginning of the walkway leading to the most attractive place: the highest of the... More

Having done the bus tours this was a great way to see and get to know an unfamiliar city even better. It takes you past some of the key spots like One Tree Hill, Mount Eden and Auckland Domain. Although the walk probably flows better from north to south (giving a better approach to monuments and gardens) I opted to... More

I visited Auckland for business but took some extra leave to do this walk. My ambition is to (mostly) run it in future but I walked it quite quickly mostly because I was tight for time. I agree that the signage is not obvious/easy to follow. I did prepare by researching on the internet but still managed to get a... More

Not the main Coast-to-Coast Walkway but a great Auckland coastal walk. Starting from Takapuna (convenient car park area at the bottom of the Promenade) the walk to Milford Bay takes 45 minutes for the average walker. It does, however, have some challenging rock area during the first 10-15 minutes which have been made considerably worse by Takapuna Council (?) surprisingly... More

I would recommend that everyone who visits Auckland does this walk. The 16km walk takes you from Onehunga to the Viaduct Harbour (or vice-versa but I'd recommend finishing in the city) and you pass through or near most of TripAdvisor and Lonely Planet's top "Things to Do": Viaduct Harbour, Mt Eden, One Tree Hill, Auckland Museum, Albert Park, Auckland's Domain... We were really looking forward to doing this portion of the Te Araroa Trail through Auckland City. Alas the signage is very poor - we spent majority of our time looking for the signs, which were inconsistent at best & often missing or hidden at worst. Backtracked several times to discover the sign was hidden or turned around or faded.... More
