Auckland in general is fabulous but this area is so nice. The main street is filled with shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, etc. It is very safe and has lots to do. The homes are beautiful. I enjoyed spending a few days around here

Great bars and shops that are more original and individual than many in the main city. Only short taxi ride.

Really fantastic area not far out of the Auckland CBD. It's lined with lots of trendy shops and cafes, and you could easily spend a day wandering up and down shopping and eating to your heart is content. Definitely check it out!

Love the variety of restaurants and eating places. A very wide variety of choice. Very friendly and welcoming area. Ponsonby road is long and much of it has businesses on both sides. Ponsonby Fish Shop very friendly & loved their grilled snapper, Lulu's omlette with various cheeses, the Ponsonby Food Court was great with the variety and choices of international... More

We spent a morning strolling around the shops and cafes in Ponsonby. Loved the area as it's quite vibrant. Lots of New Zealand designer clothes shops. Think Sabatini and Kate Sylvester. We stopped for coffee (good coffee!!) and cake (also good) and picked up a couple of nice homeware items to take home. Lots of great eateries here also. Definitely... More

Ponsonby has a pulse of hip with affordable eats, shops, and pubs. My guess is the location has morphed into gentrification with some of fabulous it once had wearing off. The grit and totally hip is turning bland. The gay community is part of the community pulse with the annual gay pride festival as one of it's draws. It is... More

Wherever we go, we ask the locals for their Williamsburg (Brooklyn). Ponsonby was that spot. Foodie delights and great bars/cafes

There is a wide variety of restaurants especially in Ponsonby Central. However, the shops were all the same and quite pricey.
