If you don't have time for a more extensive trip into the NZ countryside a half day trip to the Waitakere Ranges and the west coast beaches is a great option.

Make sure to stop by when you are in the Waitakere ranges, stunning location and very educational. Lovely deck to sit in a beanbag and relax (and enjoy a delicious organic icecream)

You can spend whole day over there, have a picnic with family or friends and relax too. There is the public bus which goes to that area, but it is better to go by car and don't worry about the time.

It's great anytime of year. Nice and cool in summer and in the wet weather the bush gives off a really special aroma. But have waterproof jackets and good walking shoes, because you will get everytning wet
