A most enjoyable and amazing part of New Zealand , fabulous volcanic islands with stunning bays incorporating excellent beaches . Ferries to most islands from downtown Auckland at a reasonable price.

The Hauraki Gulf must be one of the most beautiful places in the world, with its hundreds of off-shore islands, each with their own ambience; criss-crossed with ferries, both passenger and (in some cases) vehicular, the islands of the Gulf offer fine food, fine wine, fine beaches, and, well, just a great experience.

The greatest playground that Auckland has in it's back yard. From beautiful views from the top of the hills to the beautiful underwater scenery . Catching your lunch is the ultimate experience in pristine conditions . If you don't own a boat charter one with a local guide & sample whats on offer .

On New Years eve I went fishing with a friend on the Hauraki Gulf. What a day! We saw dolphins chasing fish, whales chasing fish, gannets chasinng fish, and even a shark chasing fish. The sound of a whale breaching is really amasing from 50m away and the sight of the dolphins, whales and birds all working together to score... More

This is iconic Auckland. If you are lucky enough to know someone with a boat there is no better place to be than on the water. The Auckland skyline is beautiful, especially at night. There are ferries going in all directions frequently and many charter companies that you can hire boats or yachts from. There is a car ferry to... More

Returning after a 40 year absence I have just enjoyed a week of cruising the most unspoiled gulf area adjacent a major city. I doubt there is anywhere else in the world as accessible by day or week by ferry or charter vessel. Waiheke, Kawau or Great Barrier islands are all accessible national parks with residential areas.

This refers to the body of water out from Auckland where several iconic Islands are located. Rangitoto, Motutapu, and Rakino to name a few. Ferries will take you to any of these Islands and there are even Harbor tours to see this also. I went to a few Islands and Davenport too. Close by and memorable due to all the... More

If you can work out when the ferry goes to Home Bay at Motutapu (every second Sunday), take the opportunity and go! Beautiful walks, rare and endangered birds, stunning views of the Gulf. Some stunning military remnants to explore too. Best thing - you can have the place to you self! ! No one seems to know it's there. The... More

There are several ferry options to the various islands in the gulf. Pick any one and enjoy the gulf and the excellent views of the islands and of Auckland.
